I have always used both, KBB and NADA. That then I look at what other similar vehicles are selling for. Then the price I offer depends on what exact condition the vehicle is in. Say something needs to be replaced, partially deduct that from the asking price.

Any links to said, '03 Tahoe?

Sure, and thanks for all the tips. Buying a car is a really daunting task more so than it seems it should be.

That is the link to the Tahoe I gave the example about.
Before this I have always done private party sales, I prefer that but I think I am going to be stuck with going to a dealer this time.

Dont get discouraged, take your time and you will find the right deal for you.

The worst part is finding a vehicle you want and getting excited about it and it doesnt work out.

Dont be afraid of higher miles ( over 100,000) on any Tahoe . As long long as the body is nice and it checks out mechanically you'll be fine. They last for a long time. My 95 has 153,000 , My Dad has a 96 with 299,000 and a 99 with 199,000 . Our 05 has just turned 80,000 and is like brand new.

Look around and see what prices are in your area, Times are togh right now so offer low, they can only say no!

Wow thanks for the tips. I think I am in a pretty good position, I want to buy a truck and a lot of people are not really buying right now. Like you said I should be able to offer low with the new models coming out, besides I am sure they would rather sell it to me, than pay taxes on it this year!

o come on tim z dont bring age in to it maby he was dropped on his head or somthing

Yeah, don't bring age into this lol. I was dropped also, not sure if it was on my head though, have to ask my older sister.

That seems like a fair price for that '03 Tahoe you listed. KBB suggested retail value is around $12,300. After taxes and fees, should be around $11,600? Still under KBB

From the pictures it looks super clean and well taken care of. I would test drive it and have a mechanic check out the engine if you are serious about buying it. It's a fair price, dealers are struggling to sell right now.

Thanks for all the help guys. That did seem like a fair price for that Tahoe. I am really looking for a black one with a few more options but that is my backup if things don't go as planned. So even when you find a vehicle like that, which is clean, fair price etc. How do you start the negotiation? I know there probably isn't a "formula" so to speak of where to start, but would I just say "well I was looking to pay 8,000" I know these question probably sound dumb, but I really don't know how to go about this. When you deal with a private party it is always much easier.

Again thanks for all your help with this. Hopefully no one is close and goes and buys that Tahoe after seeing this post ;)

just look it over first, then as you do it it gives u time to plan your conversation. if u are really gonna go for a low price , have it all with you, tell him i have it all now in cash , and will take right now, that usually gets them . i got an $1800 truck for $900 like that, bcuz all they see is $$$ signs in their heads

Cash always talks at the begging and end of the months. This is when dealerships want to be out of the red for that month.
