you need speed 1 to turn off when speed 2 activates otherwise you will eventually burn out the motor...i think running it your way would have both speeds on.

Not necessarily. In most cases if a fan low speed has two electrically powered poles to drive drive the rotor it at slow speed. typically 1 or more poles are added and powered as well to boost the speed to high. Now of course this is dependent on the design of the fan so some simple testing will help identify it works in such a way. Or you can get your hands on a tech manual for the town car or ford techie to see the theory of operation for the cooling system control relays.



This is the diagram for that Lincoln car and with the fact that it has a seperate fuse for each speed and the way the motor is drawn it leads me to believe the fan is wire as such.

Now I could still be wrong but the end user should find out and verify for themselves or get someone to help find out.

It would start the fan at 60% and kick up to 100% if need be.

Absolutely as long as the fan is wired to work at full power with one winding on a two speed motor use that high speed winding on the controller. You really need to know how the fan works internally to be sure.

I have a little good news!!!! i was googling wiring a 2 spd cooling fan and i clicked
on this forum and this guy used a fan relay from a volvo it has a power wire and a

relay then 2 trigger wires in the middle PICS (www.photobucket.com/qlcp) i tested it out

and it does control low & high speed on the fan when you ground one of the trigger

wires as follows .
it has 1 & 2 out 1 goes to the low fan spd the 1 in trigger wire goes to the temp
probe. 2 out is the high fan spd and the 2 trigger wire will be wired to the ac wire

you will have to do a relay so that the ac clutch power wire will open a ground output
sinse this fan relay use a ground to trigger it. A $ 5.00 item at the jnk yard it was a 96

volvo this was in and this unit is sealed . Now i just need to get the temp probe setup , i might have to cut the efan shroud so i will clear the water pump pulley bolts i want to put it inside my fac shroud ,wire ,wire loom, good fuse holders and heat shrink
let the fun began

I'm completely done installing my EFAN i just have to tweek the adjustable

thermos switch. Most of the picks will be on (www.photobucket.com/qlcp)
i spent $65.00 on every thing and the hrs it took i lost count but it will
be less time i doing it again. I picked up a couple of these volvo relays
for the next install . Now every one talks about the tarus efans they are
small little fans the fan i got is huge in comparsion mine out of a 2000 town
car and they are in crown vics to and i did have to cut the shroud down
alot to put my shroud back on. I can feel the fan sucking air through the
grille. another project done !!!
