Any little bit helps. I've done the same thing over the years on various vehicles. As some have stated, it's not necessary.......but an engine is much like our bodies. It uses more fuel to stay warm with all the computer controls. So, keeping it warmer will actually help conserve fuel, and the perk of getting heat sooner is a big plus.
I've been in North Dakota for over a week for work.......it's been cold AF here last week. My poor rental RAM 1500 with the pentastar V6 would've benefited from some cardboard (actually thought about doing it, but decided to just never shut it off all day). Poor fella.......he tries so hard to be a real truck. LOL
