Well, what I've learned in my short life is that crappy/scary/dangerous situations don't always make appointments. I could keep my fire extinguisher in a box buried underneath other boxes in a storage room with a locked door and get to it in time if the fire made an appointment ahead of time. But fires usually aren't that thoughtful, so I keep a couple extinguishers in places that I have extremely quick access should a fire start somewhere.
Same goes for my gun. I could keep it my vehicle in the console or glove box unloaded with the ammo separate, but then I'd have to tell some bad guy that is trying to jack me to hold on one minute while I retrieve my weapon and load it--then he can proceed to try to jack me.
I'm a realist. I've seen and heard of enough bad shit happening to good people when they didn't expect it so I decided to take control and not rely on luck. I avoid dangerous situations at all cost but sometimes they're bound to find you.
I have to agree with this statement. I've been jacked before and believe me it's not pretty. I keep my Glock 22 locked and loaded on my hip and when in the truck it sits between the seat and the center console. I decided that I will be a victim no more..
