Well, what I've learned in my short life is that crappy/scary/dangerous situations don't always make appointments. I could keep my fire extinguisher in a box buried underneath other boxes in a storage room with a locked door and get to it in time if the fire made an appointment ahead of time. But fires usually aren't that thoughtful, so I keep a couple extinguishers in places that I have extremely quick access should a fire start somewhere.

Same goes for my gun. I could keep it my vehicle in the console or glove box unloaded with the ammo separate, but then I'd have to tell some bad guy that is trying to jack me to hold on one minute while I retrieve my weapon and load it--then he can proceed to try to jack me.

I'm a realist. I've seen and heard of enough bad shit happening to good people when they didn't expect it so I decided to take control and not rely on luck. I avoid dangerous situations at all cost but sometimes they're bound to find you.

I have to agree with this statement. I've been jacked before and believe me it's not pretty. I keep my Glock 22 locked and loaded on my hip and when in the truck it sits between the seat and the center console. I decided that I will be a victim no more..

"I just don't think we should necessarily encourage gun carrying like that..."

Like that?? Not sure what you mean?? It is not a legal issue for me as a CCW holder, to carry it there or anywhere else I please in my vehicle or on my persons (except the excluded areas, govt building, churches, and the like).

And thanks for that link above. Noone here has done anything too creative. I had a great setup in the beemer, where the cell phone dock option was in the center console lid... Unfortunately, GM doesnt have that coincidental feature. Glovebox, no, too inaccessible, Center console is slow and too many moves, inbetween the seat works and console works I guess. Ill leave it mounted unless I see good pictures of this "drawer" mentioned above!

Well the drawer part is currently packed away. I am planning on moving soon so I put the project on halt. I will definitely post pics up when I am moved though! I basically took a metal box that was big enough for my glock 27 and one spare mag. Got some foam and cut out a place for each. I will cut down some drawer slides and attach them to the side of it. In the 2001 tahoes there is a cassette player with a cuby underneath. With some cutting and a mount in there the drawer "should" slide out. I want to hook it up to a something that moves it out either with a pulley or a hydrolic actuator type thing. havent gotten to that step yet though lol.

Amen.

Not to mention I had to use my gun on the way to a job site last week...

A deer had been hit by a car and left on the side of the road. Couldn't stand up, but was still trying to. So the gun came in handy.

Although it has nothing to do with driving while carrying in the car, I got out the 22 last night... I was laying in bed last night trying to go to bed, and got woken up by the very well known smell of a nearby skunk! My dog has been sprayed twice in two years, and it is awful, so I figured I am going to go get this little sumbetch (purposeful accent to lighten the story). I never saw the skunk outside when I got down there, but i always get a kick out of thinking about people who might have seen me outside in my workboots and underwear at night with a pistol creeping around the side of the house!

Just take my ******* Denali, I have insurance for a reason. No reason to have to worry about getting into a gun battle or anything when I can just get a new one. I carry a maglite in my door for those ****** criminals who don't carry guns. I'll beat the shit out of them with my maglite instead of pulling a knife. Maglite isn't a deadly weapon where a knife can legally be considered one.

Amen to the maglite, 3 DCell fits nicely in the door. Here in NY we can't carry either, as far as I know and its a royal pain in the ass to get a handgun license, can take up to a year. Yet you can walk into Wal-Mart and buy a shotgun. Doesn't make much sense to me, but neither does most of the things the government does.

As im in Ontario Canada also no packin here. I honestly dont see a reason for it. Maybe if I lived where some of you do I might think it was nessesary. I do however keep my tire iron beside my driver seat. Thats because I kept forgetting where I put the damn thing. I guess if needed that would do. As stated above I have insurance if they want to pull a gun to get my truck take it. Not worth a life.

I agree with that one. I have when I stop people and they dont tell me they have a gun in the car! Plus working in the area I work in most of the guns are stolen or they are convicted felons. But I keep my on my hip or Sig Sauer p238 in my pocket!!

On my Hip unless for some reason I take it off it goes in the seat pocket behind the passenger seat. Have fun getting pulled over with it in between the seat or up under the dash like in the OP.

Yeah, I had a little league baseball bat on the side of my seat was rendered useless when I got jacked and shot in the shoulder. They could've taken my car at that time as well, had full coverage insurance and gave it up willfully, problem is the cowards shot anyway therefore NO!! I don't think so.. :mexsmoke:
