what about smaller diesels?

Anyone ever consider putting in a smaller diesel?? I know everyone thinks about the big stuff like the duramax. But what about a straight 6 or 4 cylinder turbo diesel? Pretty sure some of the mercedes ones that are in the Fedex trucks have to make some good power, and in our comparatively light trucks would probably haul butt.

If i had unlimited funds i would look for a straight 6 or 4 cylinder (less clearance issues and less weight). Gotta imagine even the 4 and 6 cylinders can make over 400ftlbs of torque and probably still get close to 300 hp. and still give decent mpg if driven nicely. Could go way old school with a 2 cycle detroit and have a screaming hoe!

300 hp is no more than any of our trucks have now though. Go big or Go home.!!!! lol. I mean I know the dodge ram has an inline 6 in its heavy dutys, but have you seen the size of the cylinders on that mofo. The engine out of a mercedes was designed for a 4000 pound car, not 6500 pound monstors. I think a cat diesel out of a peterbuilt would be perfect.!!!

increasing hp on a diesel should be easier than a gas..just crank the turbo up!.. but really with all the extra torque they make..that would make a huge difference..it takes torque to get heavy objects moving..like our tahoes compared to a car. yes a diesel out of a vw jetta wouldn't do jack..but a mercedes diesel that was in a fed ex truck should be pretty stout.

I was checking stuff out..would be cool to get an old 6 cylinder detroit diesel in one of our trucks. found some wikepedia specs (2stroke 6 cylinder) of 650-810 ft-lbs of torque and 238-290hp. So close to the stock 295hp in a 5.3l..but darn near double the torque, that should get it moving in a hurry.

Nope, just add fuel , easy power.

Anyone who thinks a stock 6.0 is faster than a stock Dmax is mistaken.

Dont believe what you read in a mag, go drive them !

My tuner has bone stock Duramaxes ( stock turbo, no motor mods) running 12.4 in the 1/4mile. And thats a 6800+# truck.

We are lucky that GM makes such badass drivetrains!

There are lots of Dmax conversions out there

A Buick grand national with a Dmax running 10's

A 70 chevelle with a twin turbo Dmax

Orange crush ( 1970 chevy pickup with Dmax running in the 9's 1/4 mile

PPE built 05 escalade with Duramax conversion

Pimp my ride built 65 Impala with Dmax that runs 10's!!

You guys need to ride in a EFI live tuned Duramax, not the bully dog crap.
