I just replaced my hood on my 01 Yukon with a Goodmark Cowl hood. I called a guy I know that owns a body shop and asked if he'd be interested in my stock hood. He's bought stock hoods from me before that I replaced. Gave him the last 8 digits of my VIN so he could check to see what all it would fit. He said the guy at the GM dealership said that it was made in Mexico and that the hood and front fenders are different. I think someone is smoking something. I never heard that one. Especially since I ordered my hood for my model and it fit like a glove. Maybe something is different somewhere along the line but I wouldn't think it's anything to serious. Not a big deal, he's going to buy it anyway but it just struck me as odd and thought I'd ask if anyone else had heard the like?
Mine was built in the Mexico plant, and I assure you that nothing is different.
Now Jake is correct about models SOLD in Mexico, those trucks had the Silverado front end. Perhaps your body guy is confusing that with models built in Mexico for sale in the US.
how do you know have you changed ur fenders and hood that where usa built

Kinda off topic but when I was in Mexico last year I saw several chevy pickups with the 96-98 GMC grill and headlights with a bow tie emblem where the gmc emblem is so it wouldn't surprise me if they used different fenders and stuff. Just my 2 cents worth

Possibly the difference has something to do with "crash test" rating.

I once had a Honda which needed a door replaced. I bought a door on ebay for $27. The price was Dirt Cheap. Shipped from Mexico. When it arrived I noticed it didn't have the side impact pipe welded inside it. This pipe runs along the inside of the door......travels from the upper door hinge along the length of the door skin and continues to near where the door latch is located. It is designed to prevent the door from collapsing into the vehicle in the event of a side impact collision.

I ended up paying a much higher price for a new OEM Honda door.

Did this topic ever get settled?

I have been looking for a replacement for my Yukon's hood. It has two small areas of damage where it looks like something hit the front lip, and rolled off the passenger side, and the clear coat is failing directly in the center of the hood. I've seen many places specify that the vehicle that they are coming off of are Mexican built Yukons with a VIN number starting with 3 and may not fit US or Canadian built Yukons. I can't find anywhere that says 100% that they will or won't fit. Only circular references that say they might be different.

I just found a great looking '01 Yukon that is getting parted out on Craigslist near where my parents live. I'd like to send my father to go pick pull the hood for me, but I noticed that they posted the VIN and it starts with a 3.

Has anyone placed a hood from a #3 VIN Yukon on a #1 VIN?

Parts will be the same for mexican and US built. The only difference is for trucks sold in Mexico/Central/South America, and I believe it was only for the Chevy.
