I have seen this over the years at shops I ran and after. There is maintenance that can avoid most of this. The pivot/rub areas build up debris and dirt. Keep them cleaned out with air and whatever you use to wash the vehicle with. Then apply a thin film of silicone lubricant by using a thin applicator to reach in and apply the lube. I have fixed several mirrors that were moving slow by just doing this. If it moves then it needs maintenance. The plastic gear will act like a fuse and salvage the motor/accuator if in a bind. The plastic gear will break to save the motor. But you can do it any way you want.

My passenger side mirror just stopped last month. You hear the noise of the motor running, so I'm sure the same thing snapped. How difficult is it to get into the area where this gear is located? I too subscribed and if I need that gear, would gladly pay for one.
