For those who are unaware, our GM vehicles will automatically turn off if left idling in park with the key fob in the vehicle. I had to look this up because it happened to me while I was running the Yukon to charge battery and try and melt the snow off it. Times will range with year, but I saw anywhere from 1 hour to 2 hours. Apparently this is due to complaints manufacturers received of stupid people and carbon monoxide poisoning, more specifically to avoid lawsuits.

It's bad enough that our remote car starts are limited to 20 minutes. Now I cant leave my truck running as I wish. So again the stupidity of the few, dictate the liberties of the many. So sick of nanny controls.

Mostly likely yes.

I know it sucks when your ride is covered in snow (been there, done that back in the day and never again), but to have it idle for hours on end just to melt snow? Might also be a good idea to invest in a battery charger to keep battery charged in case you have doubts.

that cannot be accurate for all. I work security and we have a couple gm trucks and we have had them sitting and idling for literally days with no issues. even with our 2020 Silverado we have, we just had idling for hours on a couple different days recently .

i believe there's a relating article for this for a different situation but regardless the owner wanted the truck to be able to idle indefinitely and they figured out how to do it. its actually a built in feature that has to be activated with some button combinations each time you want it to idle indefinitely. something about holding the start button instead of just push to start

all you have to do is start it and then hold the start button for 15 seconds and it should disable the automatic shut off, should work you may or may not get a message in the dic like this

I wonder if the difference with our 2020's is that they use a standard key not just a fob and button. ( I believe they are work truck versions, as they also have rubber floors. )
