Battery light on after replacing alternator

This is what my buddy thinks.

I was doing some research on this when I couldn't sleep and remembered (sort of) when one of my cars did this thirty years ago. I remember changing the alternator and also remember repairing the instrument cluster but no more details than that. For the light to stay on like that would be an IPC issue though.

So if I have a voltage gauge telling me 14. Is it worth getting a IPC on an old Tahoe? Just so the light won’t be on. Or is there an underlying fear?

I don't know the answer to that one. The light would drive me crazier so if it were mine I'd be fixing it!

There are two sizes of alternators on the gen III engine. There is the 105 amp small case, and the 130 amp large case.. nearly every alternator larger than 130 is based off the large case design. The large case has the pulley in a different spot and uses a v-belt that is 3/4" longer than the small case belt. The smaller belt would still work..... BUT....now I don't know enough to say for certain if the tensioner can compensate completely or of you would be causing extra drag with the extra prrssure.. I have brought this up a few times and have not got an answer, but have seen other posters say that after putting on the correct belt, it fixed the problem.. I don't know if you might need to replace the tensioner now also, but I would make sure your belt is the correct part number, and replace if not.

I don't think the alternator would be the problem (unless it's bad) I ran a 145amp and a 200amp in my 00 and it never caused any problem, I currently run a 300amp in my 2012 it doesn't give me any problems either.
