Does anyone know what it is or does the little box that is on the negative inches away from the battery terminal?

It’s for the Regulated Voltage Control System—limits charging under certain conditions. If you see your voltmeter sometimes higher, sometimes lower, that’s it in operation.

Yep, 05 + had an external voltage regulator, that's it. It had something to do with being able to run lower voltage when it wasn't needed as much, because that way it was controlled by the ECM, and not just by the alternator. It somehow reduced the slightest bit of drag to get you a hair better fuel mileage.

Current sensor for the smart charging

It measures how much current is flowing into the battery to determine state of charge. Battery discharged = taking current = alternator charges higher ~15.2v. When that current tapers off, the confuzor sees the battery is charged and will reduce it to battery float voltage ~13.2v.

If you do any wiring for the vehicle such as the big 3, make sure your ground passes through that

I'm actually in the process of doing the big three, I guess it does not matter the gauge of wire I use, just make sure the semsor goes thru the negative wire correct.

Thanks for the input Chris
