I have literally searched this all day and could not find an exact match....

I have a chatter sound near the compressor. With the ac off it is very low, when I kick the ac on high it gets louder. If the truck is warm this sound pretty much goes almost completely away even when the ac is on. The belt seemed fine. Replaced the tensioner, although the old one seemed fine. Compressor clutch spins with resistance, the pulley spins freely. The system is not low, the compressor does not kick on and right back off. The truck runs perfectly normal, no misfires. Ac blows cold. Sound doesn't increase with rpms. My last resort is to remove the belt completely and listen. I noticed the chatter about 3 weeks ago prior to a 650 mile road trip. No burnt rubber smell either. Sorry for the long post, trying to get all the info in. Any help will be appreciated!

Pull the belts off and run it for a min and see if the noise is gone. then replace the ac belt first, start it again for a min, then replace the main belt and start it. you should have your answer by then.
