My dealer said the policy that they are offering "is basically an extended bumper to bumper warranty". Again, I don't trust these salesman as they are completely clueless with what they are even selling nowadays.
I'm going to see if they have an actual policy that would be for diesel to review. Will include it here when I get it
If it's a GM warranty you can see the info on the internet. GMEPP is the term for their plan. Also a GMPP for a new vehicle extension. But it could be an Ally plan, also find info on the net for this. Doubt there is actually a B2B plan anywhere, they all have exclusions I'm thinking.
We bought an Infiniti in 2016. We included an extended factory extended bumper to bumper warranty, 7 years. Problem..... Dealers charge through the nose for typical repairs. We needed to replace the windshield washer pump. They wanted to charge nearly $250.00. and keep the car for 2 days.
I bought a pump for $45.00. My mechanic replaced it for $40 during a lunch break at his shop. My warranty deductible cost WAY more than that.
For the monthly premium, on a 3rd party contract, ...instead, put the same amount in a special savings account for repairs.
Our factory extended warranty was for the years after the regular warranty..... Considering the cost of a transmission, etc. ( Even though, the Infiniti is so damn reliable !! )
Exactly . A zero deductible bumper to bumper extension would be ideal , similar to what Lexus/Toyota offers. Gm has one (bumper to bumper with no 3rd party involvement), but it only goes to 60k
When I inquired about exclusions for diesel, I got this response from the service manager at the dealer that I am awaiting delivery from:
"EGR is covered under Bumper-to-Bumper Warranty 3yr or 36,000 miles whichever comes first.
Diesel Particulate Filter is covered under Emissions Warranty 8yr or 80,000 miles whichever comes first."
Then the sales manager responded after that with:
"EGR would be covered under the extended. DPF may be considered a maintenance item since it’s a filter."
So again, seems very grey with how somebody wants to interpret the wording of contracts. Such a pain the the butt trying to get a straight answer.

Yeah that’s a tough one . I’ll be in the same boat in a few days /weeks as my window sticker was just generated for our 3.0 xl Denali .
Looks like it’s either inquire about and buy the 60k bumper to bumper extended warranty that should cover emissions, or start setting aside some money aside every so often in the event that something emissions related fails .
Hey all, GREAT THREAD btw. Learned a lot reading it.
Wife and I just bought a new 2024 Tahoe LT last week from Pohanka Chevy in Chantilly. MSRP is $72K but dealer markdown made is $65K. Site unseen, Carmax was willing to give her 2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo (54k mileage) $12,400 for it. But there were some rust/scrape issues and we doubted we would get that from them. We managed to negotiate with Pohanka and we settled at $9500 trade-in. An excellent amount for a car that cost approx $30K brand new close to 10 years ago
When it came time for the extended wtty discussion, I politely refused. They were offering 8Y/80K (I think) bumper to bumper for approx $4600. This was going to extend out the default 3Y/36K but start immediately, so you are paying $4600 for 5 extra years. A bad deal no matter how you look at it. I was already going to refuse anything besides the car anyways.
What this thread taught me:
1) Don't buy anything from the dealer besides the car (a known given)
2) Don't buy the extended wtty from the dealer
3) Don't buy the extended wtty until your standard bumper 2 bumper is about to go out. If you bought an ext. wtty from day 1, it would be overlapping with your standard b2b and would just be a waste of money.
4) Buy the extended wtty from [email protected]
5) Buy the ext wtty that is backed by GM, not 3rd party.
Some people have suggested to just put the money into a high yield savings account. I disagree because of how cheap Thompson auto is.
Price Comparison:
Look at that. ThompsonAuto is offering the exact same GM plan for less than half compared to what the local dealers what. A ******* joke really. We only drive 5-8K miles per year anyway, so we will hit the year max before we hit the mileage max.
Now it goes without saying that the insurance for a 3 year old car will be more than a brand new car. ThompsonAuto was nice enough to send me over two schedules, one for below 12K mileage and one for above 12K mileage. The schedule for >12K is obviously what will be applying to us in 3 years, and its still more than fair. There are two plans of 84M/56K (8k miles per year) and 84M/70K (10k miles per year) that appeal to us. These cost about $1800 and $2300 respectively. So the standard 3 years plus 84M (7 years) is 10 years of close to bumper to bumper coverage.
Told Todd that he will be hearing from us in a few years.

So if I buy a 7 year plan, that statement makes me think its 7 years from the day I buy it. Same with the mileage quote
