Best Wax - Black Paint

Getting ready to wax my black 17 Tahoe. I have always just used regular Meguairs wax. With all these new hybrids and ceramic products - maybe time to try something else.

Live in the Midwest so the weather can reduce wax longevity. It is garaged 90% of the time.

What do you guys use?

I live in Phoenix and we get 360 days of intense sun here...its not good for the paint on your truck!
I used to wax each of my cars every other month. I always used a Mothers synthetic until recently.

Recently I started using Mothers CMX, a spray on ceramic coating. Its seems to work very well and holds up great. I notice alot of the "stuff" that would stick to the paint, even after a wash, wouldn't stick to this stuff.

No matter what you choose to do, i recommend ALWAYS clay bar your paint after you wash it but before you apply wax or sealant. If you haven't used this before, its a game changer when it comes to cleaning you paint. Note that washing your paint doesn't remove all of the dirt and debris.

Thanks Gents - I have to admit, I have never used a clay bar so I'll have to figure that out.

Usually I use Meguiars ultra fine polishing compound by hand about once a year and then paste wax.

I assume the clay bar replaces the polishing compound process - correct?

Clay your vehicle then use turtle wax ceramic polish. Wait 24 hours then apply ceramic spray coating. Wait 24 hours and apply another coat of the ceramic spray coating. Let me tell you the gloss and smoothness is unreal. Your car will stay cleaner much much longer. Following the above process will give you a year protection. Check out some YouTube videos.

Yeah. The water just beads and slides off. What I do after I wash I take it on the road get up to 60 for a bit and by the time I get home the car is mostly dry. Less toweling the fewer scratches. If you have an orbital to apply to polish that would be ideal. It’s a light compound so you can’t hurt anything, just may take you longer to get some deeper scratches out. But if you just have spiderweb swirls this will handle most of them. Just take your time. That’s key.

I have the Turtle wax product but have not had much luck on black. It worked well on the wife’s light bronze metallic but on black I get streaks.
