Is there a recommended replacement for tired hatch/lift gate pistons for a 2003 Yukon XL? Is there something "better" than stock?

Thanks,

I replaced mine with Sachs Stabilus lift supports from O'Reilly Auto. They have a lifetime warranty and are made in the USA.

That being said, even brand new, the lift supports never were able to get the lift gate up "quickly".

I wonder if anyone here has experimented with using larger than spec lift gate supports?

Upgrading to heavier duty lift pistons is something some of us with older Toyota Land Cruisers have been doing for a while...

Does anyone know the specs on the stock (or the Sachs Stabilus) pistons? I will try to find some "better" pistons and report back...

I replaced mine not too long ago because one of them gave out. Had to hold it up manually for a while. Bought mine at O'Reilly too and they worked fine for me. I bought the pair cause I didn't want the other old one giving out on me. Biggest difference for me was closing it now. It was a little bit tougher to close.

Just ordered two 148 lb lift pistons (stock are 130lb) that are otherwise the same as stock dimensions. I'll report back on the install and result, as well as ordering details, once I get them.

When I had my Magnum to help with springing the rear deck lid I bought exhaust manifold springs to add to the area of the piston. Slip them over the end before attaching to mounting point. Comes in pairs and real cheap way to get more spring up.
