New subscriber today. This is a great resource. I have an '01 Tahoe with 175K miles. The check engine light has been on for awhile now. I had my shop check it and they said that it was a problem with the fuel evaporation system. He did some preliminary checks and couldn't find any problems. Now, when I take the fuel cap off to gas up the pressure inside the tank is a little scary. I have to vent it off slowly, otherwise it will try to knock the cap out of my hand. Has anybody else had this problem, or have any suggestions for a cure?

can you fill up the tank easy?
as in insert nozzle squeeze handle and let it fill up, or does the pump stop 20 times before tanks full?

Fuel tank fills with no problems.

The fuel caps don't vent to the open air anymore, do they? That would seem very "un-green". The cap seems to work the same as it always has. How would one go about testing it?

Most common problem is a vent solenoid. Make sure you get a GM replacement not an aftermarket.
