Working on and cleaning up the Tahoe yesterday I found that I have a prior border patrol Tahoe. I have always had suspensions about this with things I have found and yesterday I know for that it is an SSV type truck.

The first things I had found was the console was painted from the factory color tan to a black. they even painted the leather which is now peeling. The truck has for sure had a whole body paint job due to finding over spray all over it due to bad prep work by the painter. There are also two rub marks from something that was hitting the top of the roof on the inside and rubbed holes. Looks like a box or some kind of barrier that was mounted in there. The carpet in the rear and the carpet up front to the second row are two different colors of black and look to be different manufacture since the rear has started to break apart after a few times vacuuming and cleaning it.

All that said, yesterday I know for sure because after cleaning up the Tahoe and working on some paint chips around the body, as I was walking around the truck I noticed some kind of lettering on the rear hatch. At just the right angle you can see the outline of what looks like M564845 (random numbers since I could not see the whole part of the numbers). After typing that in google, the first thing that shows up is border patrol. Now that I know what they looked liked I look for the other sticker residue that might have been left over from the horrible paint job that was done on this truck. On the rear driver side panel I see where there was stickers that said the same M15654 and US Border Patrol. You kind of have to look pretty hard to see it but the rear hatch is easily seen from a good ways away at the right angle and in the sun.

Not saying that these handme down trucks are bad but should I be worried about anything that these kinds of trucks come with or might have been handled in the past. I just ran over 100k miles a few weeks ago and the engine seems to running good and other than some suspension parts that need to be replaced it seems to be a good truck so far.

Passing through Goose Bay on the way over the pond earlier this year.

I think you have fleet servicing and schedule maintenance on your side. As far as what the vehicle has seen or done, who knows. That goes with any vehicle I suppose.

Im hoping this thing was taken care of. Being in government orgs you tend to see how some people treat these vehicles and owning one can be scary but like I said this truck seems to be in good shape for the most part.

I have read that with these kinds of Tahoes, they have a few more things in regards to electrical stuff. I wonder if there is anything there worth trying to use. Iv torn apart the interior already for the most part and have not come across anything out of the ordinary. . yet. Ill be doing the big 3 soon and sub install so hopefully theres nothing different about these than the standard Tahoes when it comes to stuff like this. Eventually I want to add a battery, once I get into adding another sub and video throughout the head rests and over head.

Are the front seats leather or vinyl? If it's leather , why would the federal government order a border patrol truck with leather ? I'm not saying it wasn't a border patrol truck, but maybe it was a regular civilian vehicle that was converted for law enforcement. If that's the case then I'm sure you won't run into anything that's very different from a regular Tahoe.
Just a side note-i used to be in law enforcement on the state level and I've never seen any vehicle with leather, unless it was confiscated and converted for duty .And police suv's usually had cloth in the front and vinyl in the second row(nbs and nnbs) .But anything is possible.

I bought mine from a dealer that specializes in government vehicles. You take it for what it is. It has more wear and tear than a normal used vehicle, but the price was right. I changed the oil, plugs, wires and oils. Runs much smoother after that. Interior is all vinyl and was in pretty good condition. I added Weathertech liners. Vehicle had 67k miles on it when I got it.

I would say someone added the leather. It looks like leather and smells like leather. I know that the seat part where your ass and back go are usually vinyl but sides and headrests real leather.

It was for sure a border patrol Tahoe if I can get some pics of the rear quarter I will post them.

It does have some get up and go tho. Now that I know it shouldn't have a gov I'm tempted to test it out. Not sure If I have enough road for that tho. Also like I said I feel like it was taken care of for the most part. It's running pretty good.
