Bought a smokers used Yukon xl

We just had the same situation. Go to a detail shop that can use an ozone machine. You wont believe the difference. Our XL went from an ash tray to no smoke smell at all. The ozone treatment was $45. We did have them do a full interior detail as well, but we were all out at $130. Best money Ive spent on it so far.

BTW we tried the vinegar, etc. methods. Just spend the cash, its well worth it.

i used to sell cars, and we did the overnight "ozone machine" treatment in trade ins from smokers. that is the greatest invention ever! completely eliminates the odor. However you will need to Detail the daylights out of it to get the residue and nicotine off of everything.

A complete and thourough cleaning is needed if you are sensitive to the smell. I know it might sound crazy but if you are continually dumping money into getting rid of the smoke smell and it still is there then you need to go balls deep

Pull the carpet out, take it to a car wash and power wash that Mofo. The cushion line under it needs to be either treated with a odor neutralizer or loads of febreeze. There is also some cloth liner located throughout the cabin under different locations. smoke can get into this and serve as a source and also the headliner needs to also treated. Either way a good pull out and full clean is always recommended for a used vehicle.

I went through this with my 02. Gutted the interior and spent a long weekend with a carpet cleaning machine. (In retrospect should've just put a new facking carpet in). For the most part it smells pretty neutral. If the truck sits for a few days I can pick up a hint of smoke when I get in.

My 08 is another story. After a ton of cleaning (less serious carpet and seat cleaning like in the 02) it still stinks. They must have smoked a carton a day- the brown shit coming off the plastics was disgusting. I've hit it with three different odor removers (dealer did one, I did two, some were worse than the smoke) but it still hangs in there- especially if the truck sits closed up for a couple days. I didn't clean the seats as I'm going to go to leather. Maybe when I do that I'll change the carpet out too. The headliner will still be a problem.

Sounds like 1) I need to get that ozone treatment and 2) buy no more smokers vehicles. Everytime I see someone smoking in their car in traffic I want to flip them off for the stink in my truck lol.....

Get a bucket, buy a few oranges, open up the oranges, squish etc leave everything in the bucket for like a day. It will now smell like oranges. The orange smell fades after a few weeks. It will have a neutral smell. Not smokey or orangey.

as others have stated. the ozone generators work pretty well and make sure you clean the headliner. get some foam upholstery cleaning spray and clean the headliner in sections. spray the foam on the headliner generously, as the foam breaks, use a damp terry cloth towel to work the cleaner in. take a wet dry vac and *gently as to not mess up the fabric) suck out any excess moisture. i don't recommend using a steam cleaner on the head liner because it can frill the fabric and also can release the adhesive if you get it too wet or hot.

Maguires makes an awsome odor eliminator, plus You should deffinatly replace the cabin filter. Look in to a duct cleaner as well when replacing the filter.

No cabin filter in the 06. Stupid move by GM.
