General Motors has decided that a defect which relates to motor vehicle safety may exist in certain 2021 – 2024 model year Cadillac Escalade and Escalade ESV, Chevrolet Silverado 1500, Suburban, and Tahoe, and GMC Sierra 1500, Yukon, and Yukon XL vehicles equipped with the 6.2L V8 gas engine (RPO L87). The connecting rod and/or crankshaft engine components in these vehicles may have manufacturing defects that can lead to engine damage and engine failure.

Safety Risk Description

If the engine fails during vehicle operation, the vehicle will lose propulsion, increasing the risk of a crash.

Also, just got this notice for my Yukon from Carfax Car Care.

One interesting thing I noticed is that GM is now recommending 0W-40 instead of 20. We were right.

The p0016 code is interesting . I am curious how that relates to the manufacturing defect they are generically referencing.

Is the crank key way some how off a few degrees?

Either way the 0w-40 is a dead give away that the low engine speed load on the bearings are way too high.

Looks like they are not technically recalling all engines but rather, doing an analysis to see if an engine qualifies for replacement. Either way good to see them following up with an acknowledgment of the issues. The annoying part for me is if this is progressive damage from using the wrong oil viscosity, then the damage is done to most engines and all should be replaced.

Someone should negotiate the purchase of the removed engines. I wonder if the replacement will be 'long blocks' and GM attaches the exterior remaining parts to the new engines?? ( I assume that would be too much labor? )

'25 isn't affected by this recall it appears.
