'25 isn't affected by this recall it appears.
Nevertheless, I would expect that the correct answer is yes - sounds like these engines should have been recommended/required to use the 0W-40 from the start, right?

that’s why I’m asking. Regardless of whether or not it’s included in the recall it still has the same L87 6.2L they’re now recommending 0w-40 for…

Yes, I agree with you. Seems like in your case, even though your 2025 is not included in the recall, it would be advisable to use the 0W-40.

Looks like they are not technically recalling all engines but rather, doing an analysis to see if an engine qualifies for replacement. Either way good to see them following up with an acknowledgment of the issues. The annoying part for me is if this is progressive damage from using the wrong oil viscosity, then the damage is done to most engines and all should be replaced.

True, but at least now we have some protection outside of warranty should our engines go kaboom.

Been watching this for almost 8 hours today.

Still not convinced it is not a late April Fools joke or someone testing their Abode skills.

Nothing on the NHTSA web site at this point in time.

NOTICE the oil shown in the picture, it is NOT DEXOS Approved!!! But ask me what I am running in my engine!!! If has a decent high Moly content.

I have been saying since day 1 to dump the 0W20 oil. My truck had it for only 500 miles, then went to "real" oil!

0W20 is almost fine until too many remote starts and idle warm ups contaminates the fuel to the point you are lubricating with a solvent rather than oil.

The 6.2l behaves like a Diesel and with the AFM trying to turn the rotating mass with a single cylinder, what do you expect.

We will see what pans out over the next few days if this is real or someone having fun.

Want your 6.2l to live long, do not use 0W20 oil and change the oil at the 50% OLM. DO NOT WARM the engine up at idle, it takes the engine oil almost 30 minutes of DRIVING to get up to temperature below 40F ambient.

It's real. I took a used 6.2L Suburban High Country for sale on Cars.com and punched the VIN into the GM Recall site.

You have been completely vindicated in your stance on this topic. I know you took a lot of flak from other forum members saying things like "IT HAS A VARIABLE DISPLACEMENT PUMP!!!" "IT WAS DESIGNED TO USE 0W-20!!" "THE THICK OIL WON'T FLOW AS WELL AND STARVE BEARINGS OF LUBRICATION!!" "YOU'RE GOING TO VOID YOUR WARRANTY!!"

None of that was true. GM pushed the engine as hard as they could, strictly for the purposes of CAFE credits and got burned. This is a giant egg on their face and the others that defended the 0W-20 debacle. As mentioned on another forum when warranty $$$ is > CAFE credits = Recall.

Funny, I checked my GMC app earlier today and nothing showed up. I just checked my 2024 VIN on an number of other sites and nothing. I guess is ONLY for unsold inventory? I guess if the vehicle made it over the curb, not need to change anything or is this a 2nd tier that has not hit yet?

NOW HERE IS THE IRONY OF ALL OF THIS.

What about ALL THE OTHER 5.3l's and 6.2l's across all other platforms?? What about the 3.0 Duramax and I do not know what is spec'ed for the V8 Duramax or the 6.2l and 6.6l gassers. I have it on VERY good authority, that it is NOT WISE to run 0W20 in the Duramax!

If you TOW, get rid of the 0W20 NOW, and change the oil probably under 50% OLM!!!

Fuel dilution is a MAJOR problem on the DI engines.

As for the 2025's, I have 2 neighbors within 500 feet of me that just got them. I convinced them to dump the 0W20 by 500 miles and they did. FUNNY how the 2025's were just coming out when the investigation started, but none had failed so they were not included.

So GM will ONLY address what they need to when their back is up against the wall.

Wonder how they were able to get this done with CAFE and EPA requirements???
