This 5.3 is going in an 07 Tahoe. Going to be daily driver with light towing. I am going to rebuild the engine.
This is what I have:
  • Gen 4 5.3 block and crank-both honed/polished/checked by a builder. Cam Bearings installed. New freeze plugs installed.
  • Floating rods (with only 7 good pistons!)
  • 799 heads w/ valve job. (Cam kit springs installed and height matched)
  • BTR Stage 2 cam kit (no lifters)
  • Timing chain set
What I know I need:
  • Set of stock-bore pistons w/ rings
  • Main Bearings
  • Rod Bearings
  • Oil pump
  • Lifters
  • Gasket set
  • Trunion kit or Michigan Rocker Arms.
I want to stay around a $1200.00 budget. Can it be done?

My guess is you are at the lower limit. when you add all the "while I'm in there" items, add $200+. Hoses, tee fittings Oil cooler lines. You get the Idea.

Did you end up doing the rebuild?

You will also need a good tune after it's all put together just to get it to start and
idle decently. So either go with stock camshaft or budget that in as a MUST DO

Holy Old thread... just saw how old this was after I replied !!!
