I just bought 2010 Tahoe..242 k on it I was told truck had no issues, have had it for three weeks now and check engine light came on and it was a quart low on oil.. I added quart of oil and light went off. only thing I noticed wrong other than it needing oil is the cool air/mass air flow filter is really dirty...I also smell a rotten egg smell from exhaust and ran a cleaner through it...it has been a week and check engine light is on again and it is a quart low again. No visible leaks and nothing on ground when parked...I'm a single mom and don't know much about this truck.

I forgot to mention a diagnostic scan at AutoZone revealed only that it was misfiring on cylinder 5. It runs and drives pretty good though.

Pics of the truck, please.

Welcome to the OBC oil burners club Hah! Same issue with my 5.3, runs great but it burns oil. Its either the rings or the valves. Im hoping valves since I am replacing the heads soon. I have noticed that I burn less oil with a synthetic 5w-20w. I was using conventional oil for a long time due to cost of synthetic but then I joined costco and I get a really good deal on oil. Fyi I have upgraded to the new valve covers to no avail and run a catch can also. Still burns about the same. I need to get the heads done before I run thru another catalytic converter.

Thanks for the warm welcome lol! I have used 5w-20 synthetic blend high mileage by Valvoline...I don't know much about valves or heads but I think it's time to learn...head probably need it as it seems to have a rotten egg odor from exhaust...

as you probably already know, the rotten eggs smell is coming from your catalytic converters, this is the smell they emit when they go bad. They have probably been ruined by all of the burnt oil.
As far as the misfire goes, you can
Remove the ignition coil and swap it out with another coil to see if the misfire is due to a bad coil. If the misfire follows the ignition coil then that’s your problem. But if it stays on cylinder five, then you may have a bad wire or spark, plug, or possibly even injector.

can we get a picture if this air filter?

how much history do you know about the vehicle, since they told you it was good running? Just curious, back story might help which way to go.

I personally have had the opposite experience on engines that burn oil, usually a thicker oil stays in tkem longer for me.
