just wondering if this is normal. when i 1st got the truck, i never noticed anything. there is no oil leaking onto my driveway and no white smoke coming from my exhaust. no visible signs of leaking in the engine bay.

but i noticed after 2 long trips (one to NJ & the other to NC) the check oil level light came on and i had to add about a quart of oil each time.

i don't think this is normal, but sometimes you never know. thanks for any info that can be shared.

The pcv valve you have I believe has a spring in it which sometimes breaks and causes the oil use.Upgrade to a fixed orrifice pcv valve and see if it helps.I paid 7 dollers on ebay for mine.

How many miles are you going before having to add a quart?

not totally sure. i haven't kept a track of the mileage. at first i just thought it was a one time thing. drove to Jersey city & on the way back i noticed the light when i stopped at a rest stop. added a quart & then it was out. i don't really drive the truck too much around town. next trip was a round trip to myrtle beach & back to baltimore. then a week later i had to take a trip to Selma, NC & back. my wife drove it yesterday & noticed the light was on.

so all i can say for sure is about 2,150 miles & i had to add a quart.

Usually if the check oil level light comes on, you've got a lot more than a quart missing. The oil pressure switch on the oil pan is located near the bottom of the pan. Sounds like a PCV valve going bad or your engine is using oil internally. How far between oil changes and are you using 'conventional oil' ? With that kind of milage, change every 3k with conventional or every 5 with synthetic blend or full syn. Are you the original owner?

For the record I'm running 0W-40 Mobil1 and burn a quart every 2,100 miles. M1 is known to get consumed in GM motors. I'm going to switch to Rotella T6 at my next oil change and see if that helps.
