Would be nice to know the CEL codes. Does not sound legit at all. Miles?
I'll have to check the codes. I believe only the transmission is in limp mode and not the engine. I also found a black 03' Z71 5.3l for $5k that is 1 owner, pretty clean but has 180k miles. Worried about having to rebuild the trans, he says it runs good and " New shocks all around, new pulley and tensioner, new serpentine belt, new alternator, new idler arm, new pitmen arm and stearing gear, power stearing fluid change, new sway bar linkages. Recent oil change and trasmission fluid change. Rear Differential was last serviced in 2017. "

Would you pay $5k?

I think of the truck is cosmetically in good shape, the paint hasn’t or isn’t starting to fail (this would be the biggest concern for me) and the interior is clean, $1500 would be a good price and then spend $3k more on a transmission and you’ve got a solid truck. I would worry about buying an older 4L60 at this point so that worry would then be gone. Some mechanical fixes like suspension or leaks would be expected probably on any of these up to 2018 at this point.
I also found an 03' z71 5.3l that has 175k miles. He says 1 owner, and looks completely stock. It's out in the country. "New shocks all around, new pulley and tensioner, new serpentine belt, new alternator, new idler arm, new pitmen arm and stearing gear, power stearing fluid change, new sway bar linkages. Recent oil change and trasmission fluid change. Rear Differential was last serviced in 2017. "

I’d really worry about that paint on a black one.

The other thing with the Tahoe outlined in my og post is that he wants to meet at the DMV to "make title transfer easier". And that's usually suspicious imo

get the VIN number.... check it at the dealer... they can pull up the service history and maybe ownership. Before I bought my '05 Yukon XL ( one owner), it was a trade in / I bought it from a friend who goes to auctions. The VIN print out at the dealer was WONDERFUL !!
The seller should be more than happy to give you the VIN... If he hesitates, run away !!

I am considering buying this 06' with the issue above. He tells me that it is in limp mode and will only drive to 2nd/3rd gear and he had to flutter the gas and coast. He tells me that Firestone said it is a leak from the transmission to transfer case, and it needs to be sealed. he said adding fluid did not put it out of limp mode. the price is $1500, "my loss your gain" story. Does this seem too risky to buy or should I wait? having a hard time finding anything decent, and the Z71 is nice. Thanks..
I would buy it sight unseen and part it out. I can easily double my money.
