We test drove both the 6.2L and 5.3L and also the Ford 3.5 Ecoboost. Both the GMs were undoubtedly better than the Ford V6 in the low-end torque department, but the 6.2L didn't leave us particularly much more impressed when we did a couple of spirited pulls and since it needed premium fuel as well so we settled for the 5.3L and looking at the online pricing for our 2024 Z71 am I correct in seeing a ~8K markup on the Z71 ? Yikes ! Thats almost big diesel money. On the diesels that kind of money will take you north of 1000 ft lbs torque (Yes I get a big diesel is overkill for a 1/2 ton SUV). Rear world dealer pricing difference however may be smaller these days (even I don't recall such a difference but still a lot of coins to toss!) ...

Update: I checked the GMC line-up, the 6.2 upgrade cost is a lot more in-line with expectation (often <$2500) since we were looking for the Z71 the difference is startling

A couple of video recommendations
0-60 pull.. the slow-mo at the end shows how close they are on a 0-60. I will agree that looking at the torque curves for both engines, the 6.2L consistently has a good 50-80 ft lbs difference in torque across the RPM range so even the low-end torque response is likely to be better, but a 0-60 has other factors (trans shifting, etc)

Heavy duty mechanic's opinion (does line up with some of the things jfoj has been saying such as extended idling being bad due to low oil pressure at idle, 93 octane recommendation due to high compression ratio)
