Cabin Air Filter Retrofit

I added the filter kit to our 08 YXL and realized I should have bought a hot knife off Amazon for $20. I used a blade & hack saw last time. It was a PITA.

When it gets installed in the Esky I’ll use the time saved with the hot knife to clean off the evap coils before the filter goes in. What if you drove your house on the freeway at 70 mph for 10+ years without a HVAC filter. It gets nasty in there.

I ordered a replacement filter for my new to me 2012 and was quite surprised to find it did not have the filter option. Box is clearly molded as if it was an option.

Ordered the retro kit and will make the mod next week.

It's worth it.
I hate it when i'm headed down a trail with the hvac on and dust comes though the vents.

My evaporator was also packed with years of dirt, I just brushed it the best I could before installing the new filter.

Similar experience when I did it except I used a Leatherman serrated blade and file. I did a very ugly hack job to be sure.

I think I need to pull and vacuum mine, not blowing so hard as usual….the only drawback is a little Reduced flow With the filter.

The reduced flow and coolness was the clue I needed a filter change.
