That’s because most people care about the all out power number rather than what the curve looks like and how it drives off the 1/4 mile. That’s why if/when I cam either of my trucks I will be keeping the VVT because that helps a lot with power down low.

I actually have a tsp stage 2 vvt 5.3 truck cam sitting on the shelf for it but after my wife drove my car (and decided it shook too much but was “f-ing fast” I’ve been shopping around for maybe something smaller but not much out there that retains vvt.

I have the BTR Stage III truck cam (first version) in my Avalanche and it's a blast to drive, especially with a proper torque converter upgrade.

Not looking for an all out hp build. Have thought about snagging a zl1 converter for it just to make sure it’s smooth and doesn’t push at all (though my cam is bigger and doesn’t push too bad).

This is one of the most popular grinds and has VVT. A few companies will do a custom VVT grind for you for about $50 more.

I posted I have it. Still haven’t found much info on how it actually drives/acts.

I found some videos on YouTube and it doesn't sound super lopey. Me personally, I wouldn't want anything that wouldn't work with the stock torque converter. I did a mind cam in a Trailblazer SS a few years ago and did a Yank converter that everyone on the forum said was a "must have" and I absolutely hated it. If you're trying to put something together that is a daily, don't build something that belongs only on the track.

A bunch of guys over at performancetrucks. net have kept VVT on their silvarados etc. More information there for sure.
Found a few threads on the cam I have. Unfortunately most just speak of power and not daily driving it. Maybe I’ll sign up.

What cam did you go with? I’ve got a 2010 ssv with 5.3 and vvt. I’m keeping the vvt but looking for real world drivability on the camshaft you went with.

Thanks for any insight.

Here is what I put in my 07. I wanted to remove the AFM system. Comp Cam 54-412-11 212/218 114LSA, CHE Trunions, LS6 springs, 7.40 Chromoly Pushrods, Delphi LS7 lifters, high volume oil pump, new water pump, new timing chain, ARP bolts. I rebuilt the tranny but kept the factory stall. It runs great.
