Re: Can a Rack & Pinion setup be adapted into NBS?

Anything can be done, is it worth the work? I think the motor would be in the way of mounting it though. I'm trying to remember when I did the pitman and idler arms on my Silverado and I don't think there was a straight enough shot from tie rod to tie rod for a rack. These things are not meant to handle like a vette and with the body roll it would probably be pointless to tighten up the steering. Next time I get the Tahoe up in the air I will take a look and see if it is possible, but I personally am happy with the way my 6000 lb. tank handles.

I guess my question is not so much can it be but has it been done?

Rack and pinion is not on the Tahoe till 2007 right?

Or we're there any models in '05, '06 that had a rack?

I just thought about this.... What about the GMC denalli trucks that came with the all wheel steering, they may have had a rack and they were 02's I believe. I would look into that as they were very similar to our trucks. That should be a bolt in item then.

my 04.5 Dodge 3500 2wd had rack and pinion steering on it and it drove much nicer than my 97 2wd 3500 that had the standard steering box on it. I think it could be done to a 2wd yukon and tahoe fairly easily.
