Can I drop the tranny without a tranny jack/adapter?

I'm planning to use one of my flat floor jacks with some form of wood base and a ratchet to secure the 4l60e. I was wondering if I can get away without buying an adapter with angle adjuster, and instead just place it on a flat base/ratchet strap and try to pull it out, or is there a lot of maneuvering involved and an adapter/jack is must? My 4l60e has around 40k miles but the pump has been leaking for a while. It could just be the pump seal/ converter o ring, but I don't wanna risk it and rather rebuild the pump with new bushings/seals/filters and slap it back in. From what I've gathered these things either leak from a bad bushing or it wasn't aligned properly. That and I plan to do the rear man, cover gasket and barbell while at it. Thanks in advance

In my younger days I didn't even use a jack! As I got older I'd do it with just a floor jack and a few special swear words.
Being 61 now? I'd get whatever I needed to be SAFE and as easy as possible.

I made a tool with my floor jack that works great and is simple to replicate if you can weld.

I removed the small center section of my floor Jack that contacts whatever you are jacking up. I took a flat piece of (approximately) 3/16" steel plate and welded whichever size socket fit snug in the opening onto my steel plate.

It can't angle but it gets me close and then I wiggle it around by hand.

I like to put Jack stands under my plow frame, remove the torsion keys and crossmember and lower the entire transmission and transfer case as one assembly. I install it as one assembly too... even being a "big" dude, it's a nightmare wiggling the transfer case into position on your back.

I've taken and installed the transfer case in my back, but I won't lie it was a pain in the butt to align into the splines and studs. I will be giving it a shot once I get some time off here in the coming weeks. I have one of these I haven't measured it yet, but I'll update when I get to it.

You just want to make sure the weight of the transmission is evenly distributed across the pan to avoid damaging it. I secure my transmission to my customized Jack with a ratchet strap until it's up in the transmission tunnel.

How much can you bench?
Hahaha! I used to work out til I had an accident, I was still a noob at it but I could bench 200 for 5 reps, Transfer case isnt too heavy, just akward. I'm sure that tranny would kill me though, thats why I was asking :p

Update, I just finished dropping the Tcase, am fighting the torque converter bolts, I've disconnected about everything. The hardest thing so far has been removing the exhaust bolts, Snapped one the rest were tough to get out without any penetrating oil, but I managed to get through. My jack fits the oil pan perfectly, the good thing is my engine leaks a lot so the bolts were pre soaked for me. Funny thing is the flywheel looks dry from the plastic access panels. I can tell the rear cover is done though, looks pretty wet. Crankshaft sensor was bone dry, I might post pics some time. It's raining so I had to stop, I might not have time til the weekend but we'll see.

It's off! What a pain in the butt it is to get these things down! My rear main has a slow leak, so does the cover. I haven't taken the flywheel off as of yet. I will look at those things this weekend, Weird thing I found was the the driver side is covered in oil half way from the head to the bottom of the block. The other side was spotless, and the only leak I could see was from one of the main caps side bolts, I will reseal those when I get to that. Now I thought about rebuilding just the pump, as the trans has low miles, but I will just save me the headache and buy a reman one, that way I just pop it in and call it a day.
