New to the forum and forums in general. I recently picked up a 04 SLT yukon. After a few days of ownership a less than qualified thief attempted to punch the lock to break in fortunately a break in did not occur but the door skin is done. I've already modified a rear door handle for the drivers door to discourage lock punches. but my question is can a put a key lock for the rear glass.

I don't see any reason why you couldn't. I'm pretty sure that all the 02 and older Tahoe/Burbans had a key lock for the rear hatch. My 01 Suburban came with one. But about every 03+ that I see always has a push button without a key hole in it. I guess they did it to save money. Most people never use it anyway, so I guess GM figured they could save $20 on each truck if they didn't have to put a lock cylinder on the rear hatch glass. In the 12 years that I have owned my truck now, I can honestly say that I have only used that key lock about three times. And two of those times was when I had a dead battery.
But back to your original question, you can probably get the hatch button, lock, and related parts off of a 00 or 01 in the junkyard, and have a locksmith rekey it to work with your current key.

My '03 had that plain push button. When I took the button off and disassembled it, there was a fully functioning lock in there that worked with my key!

My lock was punched twice.....the second time my Hoe was cleaned out. I did the retro fit of a rear door handle to eliminate that issue.

Mine has the flat button for the rear glass. Staying tune for whats under that bad boy

I have a 2006
