Hi. Will it harm my 2005 5.3l Yukon to run with 8 quarts of oil in it. The shop just supposedly changed my pickup tube o-ring and either they didn't actually do it or they messed up the seal during installation. I am willing to bet the pump is losing prime. When the truck is turned off. I can't afford to sink more money into right now and it's too damn cold for me to work on it in the driveway.

Is you oil pressure low with 6 quarts? I wouldn't put in 2 extra quarts due to the foaming possibility of the crankshaft spinning.

My oil pressure is zero with 6 quarts. Before putting it in the shop it was zero. I did the test where you add 2 quarts of oil and jacked the back end of the truck up and oil pressure was normal, indicating a bad pickup tube o-ring.

The shop did rhe work and said it was ready. Picked it up after hours and zero pressure at startup. Hit the throttle once pressure went to normal, but it was parked nose downhill. This morning on less of a decline zero period.

Darn.

Where's the old pickup tube o-ring? Seems like the shop would have saved that or at least taken a picture for you.

At this point, do anything you have to, to get oil pressure back up. Whatever the consequences of running it with 2 extra quarts of oil, that can't possibly be worse than running it with zero oil pressure!

That Russian Garage 54 YT channel did an experiment on overfilling an engine with a see-thru oil pan. He ran it until it literally started spewing oil through the PCV. In spite of that, no real harm to the engine.

This is My thread also. At this point I'm trying to build a case that they screwed up, and I think they have.

Here is more info. I hired them to change the oring in the pickup tube. Before doing this it had zero oil pressure with a new ACDelco oil pressure sensor. It was full at 6 quarts and no oil pressure at startup. At the recommendation of a mechanic, I added 2 quarts of oil and jacked the rear of the vehicle up. It instantly had normal oil pressure.

This morning I called the shop that fixed it. They say it had pressure when they finished it, but 30 minutes later the first time I started it zero oil pressure with alarms included. Hit the gas, pressure came up, drove it just over 2 miles home. Cold start this morning zero pressure even when I hit the gas. Gently turned the truck around so the front end would be downhill slightly. Turned it off, let it sit for a bit, start it up zero pressure. I should note the oil level was full on the dipstick. I added one quart of oil and started the truck, and it immediately went to nearly 50psi at cold idle. 6 quarts. Zero. 7 quarts over 50psi.

All this being noted, I can reach no other conclusion but that the shop either did not change the o-ring, used the wrong o-ring, damaged the o-ring during installation, or didn't tighten the bolt that secures the pickup tube and seal to the pump. In other words, they are at fault, but are telling me I'm phucked and just out my money.
