I had both my dash switch and encoder motor go out. I understand the biggest problem is with the encoder motor and all the connections since they're underneath constantly getting abused from water and snow, etc. That's where I'd look first.

And the encoder motor connector should be attached high up above where its wire exits. If it's hanging low it could get caught in the driveshaft. Could pull it down, and apart, and check for a clean connection. No green crusties.
