Just do headers and put on aftermarket cheap converters. Atleast that's what I did for my trans am. Haven't gotten around to it for my Yukon yet.

I checked the aftermarket price for a catalytic converter for my 2003 Tahoe and it was as little as $52 so they would get much less than that at a junk dealer. There also may be less demand for an old used converter like on my 2003. Seems like the thieves would be better off stealing wheels. Or getting a job - less risk of getting shot. Maybe the cats on some vehicles are a lot more expensive or maybe they want new ones for resale? Wire rope mesh would be hard to cut due to the high strength steel used, if necessary. I have seen that online.

Cables can be cut pretty easily with cable cutters/bolt cutters
I don't miss that... Completely a non issue where I live now, but when I was on the west coast my solution was a highly visible dash cam, along with a cling on the driver's side window that loosely implied the retaliatory measures that would come their way if they tried anything.

Good job, you just made it 10x easier for them to locate your cats! You don't think it's worth the little work to sand blast all that paint for the hundreds of dollars in return?
Most prius around my neighborhood have rebar cage welded or they have a sheet metal shield riveted to the frame. Multiple solide 1/8 inch rebar takes way more time to cut through than a hollow 12gauge exhaust pipe

Inlaws had their crv hit while parked at the airport parking garage. That seems bold af to me, given how loud it must be and how random but constant the flow of people is at an airport parking garage.
On the other hand, at least they can be sure that the owner won't suddenly appear wielding a handgun.

Wouldn’t be the most bizarre thing I’ve heard.
I bought a drill off some guy probably 8-10 years ago it was like a dewalt drill for $20 couldn’t turn it down. I’m sure it was stolen but the less I knew the better. He constantly tried to sell me tools after that and I declined. Found out shortly after that he worked night shift security on a large construction site and was swooping up whatever wasn’t locked in a gang box. Not sure whatever happened to him. But it’s a damn shame you hire these people to “protect “ your stuff
