New to the forum, have a quick? question. My driver side cat clogged, i wasnt 100% sure it was the cat. I cut it off and straight piped it for now. The cat was the problem. Im going to get a pair of magnaflow hi flow cats in a week or two. my question is will it hurt anything running with the passenger side cat still on and the driver side cat off and straight piped? would it be better on the motor if both sides were straight piped? need to drive the tahoe back and forth to work, but dont have the extra cash for cats for a week or two. its a 2003 Tahoe 4x4 with the 5.3. if that makes any difference. thanks for any input

is it a stupid question, or no one knows. seems to be running fine, just didnt want one side to run to lean and mess something up. i think the cpu will adjust , but i was hoping someone would chime in. my guess is that most have taken both or none.

My guess is that it should hurt anything short term and I bet that if the engine didn't like it you would get a CEL

Id run both straight pipe, if you're going to replace both, might as well get a jump on removing them, aside from that, it may screw up your mixtures/ fuel economy.

This is common problem on our trucks. I have a 01 Suburban in CA. My driver side cat needs replacing and I have a CEL. Been driving around for about six months and truck seems fine. The CEL will go out for a day or two and then come back. I only found two replacement options which replace boths cats on the y-pipe: Magna flow or OEM. CA has special requirement which of course cost more. I will eventually purchase the Magnaflow because of the price difference. Any here have experience with the Magnaflow cats?
