Catback performance exhaust - review

I've had my Tahoe for about 2 months now, with the GM/Borla catback exhaust and wanted to post my impressions since a few are probably thinking about it. Short of it, I wouldn't buy it again.

Overall I'm happy with the look, start-up sounds and the growl around town when accelerating. It's very tame when off throttle or maintaining a single speed around town - I would say stock level db. It could be too quiet for some, its that quiet.

My biggest dislike and one that might have me remove it (but I had the dealer throw away the stock one) is the drone at highway speeds, between 65-78mph. Its loud and irritating. Above 80mph it does go away and thats what I did on our last road trip, its that irritating and teh story I was going to tell the police Can you turn up the radio, yes, but it would be loud and if you have kids sleeping, too loud.

I'm not sure what I can do to eliminate the drone. I would not recommend this product.

That's completely different from my experience. Wondering if BORLA changed something internally or if your choice of those optional, but required, exhaust-tips could have caused this ?

I commented on here previously how the install of the GM/BORLA catback really "woke-up" the 5.3 in our 2020 Yukon and I echo your second paragraph comment about it being almost a "stock" sound until some acceleration is asked for.

Is your vehicle equipped with the standard 3.23 rear end gearing ? We live in very "hilly" Country ( Table Rock Lake/Ozarks ) and notice the exhaust sound ( and love it) when you need to maintain your speed on an uphill grade but not at any speed just cruising.

Have you perhaps contacted BORLA directly about this "droning" problem that is so irritating ? I've had excellent results in the past with BORLA's Engineering and customer service. I'm hoping they can offer you a solution. Good Luck !

I agree with most on this thread that the GM performance Exhaust is less than desirable for me. Start up sound is meh, acceleration on highway sound is ok. Is anyone sure this is manufactured at Borla and not GM? I don’t see any markings of Borla. I would have liked to try Corsa but didn’t want to void any warranty. If I did it over, I would wait until bumper to bumper warranty expired and then put on Corsa.

Strange, I don’t have any drone with my GM Performance Exhaust with our Yukon 6.2, start up is definitely louder, seems same as stock just driving around but WOT or aggressive acceleration and it opens up and is louder than stock by maybe 50%. We have taken multiple highway road-trips up and down mountains here in NC/SC, TN, WVA, GA, etc and have never had drone in any conditions.

For the most part as long as it doesn't require a tune, you're not voiding any warranty. If they try to, tell them you have the Magnuson Moss Act. They would have to prove that your bolt on is going to damage your vehicle.

Gee, sorry to hear about the drone, nothing more irritating..... in my case, I LOVE the Borla pipes, ( I have Corsa Touring on my Corvette and love them too ) my truck is the 5.3 , 3:42 gears, and I also added the cold air system, and happily, I have never had a drone at all, I wonder if the cold air system would make any difference? I also love the cold start up, and the fact that it is quiet on the highway is good for an old fud like me, my Corsa on my Corvette is the same, quiet on the highway but when I stand on it....they know I'm coming ..LOL

I just installed the corsa cat back on my 21 6.2 High Country suburban. I have to say its phenomenal. I love the sound, which i was worried that it would be too loud. Its definitely loud at start up but really beautifull sound, and when your driving on the highway you dont notice to big of a difference. I did notice a performance increase with the corsa coming from GM performance cat back. I got the dual black tips. No fitment issues whatsoever. Definitely recommend. I ordered a rotofab cai which should arrive by the weekend. Hopefully i chose the right CAI, since there are multiple different brands i had to pick one that i saw the best feedback. I will update after i install it

You could simply change the muffler to a quieter one, swing by any local muffler shop they usually have a selection of mufflers to choose from and can tell you which is less prone to drone. All they would have to do is cut the muffler off and weld in a new one. I would keep the borla or sell it since they don't sell those seperately someone will want it.
