Check Engine Light

So how reliable is the Onstar diagnostics? I got a CEL while driving home last night. Looked up in my Onstar diagnostics and it said no issues found, all Green.

The only item is that my oil life hit 0% this week. Is it possible that hitting 0% triggers a CEL and prevents the remote start from working? Hate to schedule into the dealer for just that it it's the only problem, I can change 6 quts of 5W30 Mobil1 myself.

Hit the on star button and speak to the operator they will tell you what the code is.

Every GM I've owned that has an oil 'timer' has posted a message on the dash to the effect of: "Change Oil Soon". No CEL, just a message. Since the Tahoe/Yukon has a DIC, I'd expect to see the same when the time comes. I'd get a scanner to look to see what the CEL code is.

Sounds like you have another issue other than oil life. I didn't know OnStar could read codes so your best bet is the have the code checked with a OBD2 reader

I figured it had to be something unrelated to the oil service, as coincidental as it might be. Guess I have to get used to a CEL every 6 months on this Denali, that's what it's been so far. And every failure has been emissions related which isn't covered under the 5/100 powertrain and has been a $500 bill every time. Back to the dealer, again.

As going to try the Actron iPhone code reader but the two people I know who got them had troubles with their bluetooth settings after using it. Don't need to mess up my 5S, so guess it'll be an old fashioned wired code reader. before going to the dealer

I really like my scan gauge for reading and clearing codes. It also lets you monitor different things like TPS/MAP/DIGITAL RPM/FPR/view closed or open loop and other stuff.

Did not know that. I'll call and ask. But is that different from pulling the status on their website?

I did hit the onstar button for the first time to have them pull the code. best hey could tell me was that it was "Ignition Related" and that's all.

Bought a scanner myself (why can't anyone offer software for a laptop like I"ve had for other cars and SUV's) and found the code was the knock sensor bank 2. Went to the dealer and they just reset the code, said if it came back on that the sensor would have to be replace, and not covered under the GM powertrain warranty. After 3 days of driving it seems to be ok.

But the Onstar info was of little help.
