I have a 2000 Tahoe..

Just recently cleaned the K&N filter (which fit into the stock intake; square one) with the 'cleaning kit'. If you guys have used it or know about it, the kit contains the cleaner and the oil. The oil is the part that makes the K&N's have that red finish to them. Anyways, I did cleaned it and let it dry completely. Then I put two coats of oil on the filter (i think its too much) and let it dry for a day in the heat.

Put the filter back in and within a week my tahoe would have the worst time cold starting. It still hesitates like crazy on the cold starts, sometimes worse then others...hell even turning over and starting then it dies. Then after one hesitant cold start it fires up like nothing is wrong with it.

I read some forums and cleaned the MAF Sensor with the correct cleaner to see if that would help. Worked for about a day and then went back to the hesitant cold starts.

I haven't cleaned the throttle body which I think could also be an issue?

So I'm wondering if anyone has had this issue as well? I think the old from the cleaning kit may have clogged something. (Fuel Filter?) I need some direction from somebody! I'm not a huge gear head..just a decent looking tahoe!

Somebody please help me out..its a frustrating issue.

I have the 5.3 with 118,*** miles..never had an issue with anything on it until I cleaned the filter myself.

Thanks in advance!

I would....
Ditch the oiled filter and go with a replaceable one ( I use the Air Aid for the stock box),
Clean the MAF after you change the filter, clean out the inside of the intake tube and throttle body.. The Filter has nothing to do with your fuel filter, but if you have an inline filter Id change it all the same for piece of mind's sake. You check your battery voltage?

yes i agree with txdrewski ive been actually coming across about 1 thread amonth with varying symptoms from loss of power to rough idle and more and the only thing they had really done was put in one of those K&N filters for most people they work with out issue but it seems a small percentage of people who buy them have issues

Post a pic of your cleaned air filter, should be easy to tell if you over oiled it!

Also, when was the last time you cleaned out your throttle body?

I pulled my K&N out and went back to stock....the truck runs better that way. Apparently my MAF sensor didn't like it either.

Before i put a CAI on my yukon i used a K&N filter in the stock housing with no problems at all.

You most likely used too much oil and that`s your problem.

I just actually replaced the battery cause its been about 6 six. The battery was shot so I figured that would have helped. It did a little, but I still have a hesitation from time to time. thanks!

I have the air filter cleaned again..I didnt put it back in though. I put a different filter and just running it that way for now. I haven't cleaned the throttle body still, I finally have some time this weekend so I will most likely knock it out real quick and see if it helps. thanks
