Cold Air Intakes???

Got the swiss cheese mod with the bottom of the airbox and the tray holding the airbox cut out in mine. Dropped in a spectre air filter. She growls after about 2200 rpm and noticed a gain in mpg after i did it. If you dont want to drop a lot of loot, then thats a good way to start. Maybe even save your mulla for a performance muffler.

Then I linked to the K&N website and it says it's illegal in DC. WTF?

I was on the banks website yesterday and it said that all of their upgrades are emissions legal in all 50 states.

After I got my Specter (didnt pay any attention to MPG gains), My buddie Just had to get one for his 5.3 silverado.
Well I talked him into do a home depot tube and the swiss cheese mod along with removing the plate and a K&N filter, Before he bought the specter.

Well, I can say this. There is NO DIFFERENCE in seat of the pants or MPG based on HIS truck, between a home depot PVC pipe some silicone adapters a K&N filter or a Specter CAI.
A pipe is a pipe, and thats the primary mod being done to improve performance with these CAI's

They just look different.
So point is, save that cash, buy a cheap one and put a decent filter on it.

I have a 2005 Yukon XL and have had a Spectre CAI on for a little over a year now. I got it for about $120, I think. I replaced the filter with the AEM Dryflow, which I have to say appears to be much better constructed and is easier to clean AND oil free!

I think the CAI is definately a worthwhile upgrade.

With a BB tune, Magnaflow exhaust and the CAI above, I average 15.5 mpg. I hit 19-20mpg when on long trips.

I think no matter which kit you buy you should see a 6-10hp gain.
