my guy fixed it today. check engine light is still on for now. i just need to go to autozone and clear the codes. your guy was close to the problem. he wired ignition 1 and igntion 2 up backwards. took him 10 minutes to fix it.

i followed the instructions online on how to keypad lock the remote but cant get it to work. this remote is finicky!

The check engine light might go off by itself after a couple of more clean start/stops with no codes. At least that's how my other car works.

He was pretty close to the problem. Not bad considering he's never seen your rig and we're about 3,000 miles away...lol

I'm glad you got that straight, though. That would be annoying.

Edit: I think Riff Raff and I were typing at the same time. Didn't mean to completely duplicate his question....

On the keypad lock thing, where'd you find the info?

I just dug around a bit and found this. Maybe someone can try it to see if works.

Supposedly how you lock the keypad buttons (sounds oddly complicated for such a seemingly simple thing):

For keypad lock press F for 12 seconds. then when the LED light on top turns red press the unlock button for 1.5 seconds. After that press the lock button and the keypad will light up for a few seconds, leave it alone, when all the lights turn off the keypad is locked.

lol

Ok, bear in mind I got this info from a review and have no way to verify it.

So, do at your own risk. Could be a load of crap someone thinks is funny.

I'll ask my installer when I talk to him next.

Alright. I don't have mine fully installed yet, so I can't play with it, but here is how you set your remote to automatically lock the buttons after 60 seconds. This is straight from the manual:

To program the remote user features:
Press and hold the function button for 12 seconds: (at 3 seconds ignore
the Car number indicator.)
The remote emits one long beep, and the Transmit LED turns on.
This indicates the Main menu.
Press and hold the unlock
button for 1.5 seconds:
The remote beeps two-times, and the Transmit LED blinks
two-times and stays on. You are now in the Remote Configuration
menu.
The Arm, Disarm, Remote Start & Aux LEDs will turn ON, and/or
blink to indicate the current remote feature configuration. When
the LED is ON, the feature is ON.
To configure the remote control features press and release the
command button. The LED next to the button will turn On then OFF.
The remote beeps to indicate the feature configuration.
Lock Button: Auto-Button Lock.
When Arm LED is OFF, buttons will not lock.
LED ON: The buttons automatically lock 60 seconds after the last
button operation to avoid accidental Command operations. When
locked, if any command button is pressed the remote will emit an error
output.
If button lock is ON, press function, and then unlock
buttons.

I had to edit some of that because it uses pictures. If you need clarification, go to: http://www.directeddealers.com/manuals/og/viper/G5202V-2008-02.pdf

Scroll down to the Remote Control Programming section.

i held the f key for 12 secs and then hit the lock key. it was supposed to set it up to self lock after 60 secs but that didnt work. i cant find info anywhere how to lock it

the installer said that the engine light would go away on its own after a few days once the computer learns the bypass is supposed to be there

Think you skipped a step, where you hold the unlock button for 1.5 seconds to put it into menu mode. Then hit the lock button, and theoretically it should work.
