Yeah I think is much rather have the tabs fit the caliber and grind off the extra metal than not have the tabs fit... if u know what I mean....

Did u have to modify the 3/4 pads to fit the rotors.. I'm looking at doing this upgrade too but from what I've read the 3/4 don't fit without grinding away extra metal...

I've done this mod as well. I had to grind the backing plate material away as well. Complete pics HERE.

Just 1/2ton pads vs 3/4pads pics.

I used Hawk pads. They are great.

I didn't see any difference in the SS brake lines install. I'm curious to see if he does...
So far I agree with everything that Sparg93 has observed thus far.

It will be interesting to see the results!

I was going to test them tomorrow but we got MORE SNOW!! This is killing me b/c I have snow tires I have purposely held off installing so i can run this test!!

Maybe by some stroke of luck the area i do this testing will be dry and all the salt will have magically disappeared.

Interesting about the ABS module - did they elaborate on why it would be better to remove?

On a mechanical note, I believe adding a brake booster from the 3/4 or 1t series would help firm the pedal immensely. There's a writeup for how a guy did it, but i'm not sure if it justifies the expense...but I really want that brake booster/master cylinder upgrade b/c it makes complete sense for helping our rigs stops.

Not really, only thing one of them said was that it has to be the reason for the change in pedal feel because there is no where else for the fluid pressure to go but into the accumulators of the abs module. It's Greek to me as I have never seen the inside of one before but I have seen some post on the good old internet that this helps the pedal variation feel. Not so much braking force as once these accumulators fill the pressure applied is the same, your foot just travels the pedal more. I don't know for sure but I tow so having the abs helps in emergencies and I'm not about to find out but I was thinking about trying to adapt an F-body ABS module to the Tahoe because I have no problems with the camaro but I have not looked into it yet because another thing I was thinking about was maybe it's just the rear shoes having to travel out to the drum since they have to be set up kind of loose. I don't know, it may be a combo of these two but one thing is for certian. The front brakes stock suck so upgrading to the biger caliper and rotor should help.

does the police package OBS have the 1500 or 2500 booster?

i want to upgrade my limited (supposa be police package) and it has a different booster than the regular OBS SUV's

what Part number do i need?

are the 2500 calipers worth the effort?

joey - what yr is your rig?

it's a 2000 limited...which is a 1999 body style holdover, so i ask for 99 parts when i go to parts store.

i know the master cylinder is bad (pedal creeps ever so slowly to the floor - barely noticeable, but it does)

I am wondering if a new Brake Booster would help, did the 2500's have a bigger/better brake booster?

i ordered the Russell's SS lines ($59)
got everything except the booster laying in garage, just need time to bolt it on & bleed the system.

Unfortunately I do not know if the Master Cylinders are the same for the 1500 & 2500. I know once you get up to the 3500 (1 ton), they are boosted which ties into your power steering. If you search on the internet, there was a guy that completed it for his rock crawler and I would assume it tightened up his braking dramatically.

Here is what I can tell you...if you have a 1500 (1/2 ton) master cylinder, it's a COMPLETE WASTE OF MONEY to just upgrade the calipers to 2500 (3/4t).

I purchased top-of-the-line braking components plus AC Delco 2500 (3/4 ton) calipers and there was no improvement. I went from stock config to Hawk LTS Pads, Power Slot Rotors, Stainless Lines, AC Delco 3/4ton calipers, and blue brake fluid and there was no difference.

The only improvement was in the wet and that was due to the powerslot rotors.

Over the next few weeks I'm going to perform more research on the master cyclinder b/c that is definitely my weak link right now. I'm entertaining the idea of boosting the master cylinder, but that is going to be expensive and require modification and lots of time.

If anyone knows if the master cylinder is different on the 2500, please chime in!! Also, is it a direct fit??

Net net...if you are NOT going to change the master cyclinder, DO NOT buy 2500 calipers. However, if you are going to change the master cylinder, PLEASE post your results!!

Actually....and it pains me to say this because it cost me $.....he's right...

After running my own setup like his, I keep thinking back to when I had the $18 pair of cheapo pads on my current setup and then swapped over to the Hawk ceramic pads.

To recap; braked like shit with all upgrades mentioned but on cheap pads. Changed over to the ceramic Hawks. Currently brakes like a champ. very happy.

But if I didn't run the 3/4t setup on cheap pads, I would have thought it to be the difference, but in the end it wasn't. Just the ceramics, and slotted rotors.

Moral of the story, just buy good decent slotted rotors(not crossdrilled) and buy any type of Hawks pads. LTS or Ceramic, you will be happy. Skip the rest.

my brembo slotted rotors, stainless lines, cheap napa pads, and pulling the ABS fuse made my truck stop a hell of a lot better. i can lock them up on dry pavement they grab so well. maybe its just my truck but i haven't had a big problem with my brakes even before i switched out the parts.

glad i didn't do the 3/4 ton calipers if they don't help anything.

If your really looking for an improvement you need to do the Hydro-boost 3500 set-up. there were a couple threads on the previous forum before it went to hell about it and how much it helped. been keeping y eye out for a 3500 truck at the junkyard to pull all the parts off of but no luck yet.
