That's exactly what I thought, similar to an AWD. 4 wheel kicks in (well, the other two wheels) when extra traction is needed. Hence , "Auto 4WD"

I had an 01 Suburban and I liked the 4wd in that a bazillion times more than the awd in my 05 Denali XL. I think some of that is because of the traction control though. I'd like to rip that out and shove it up some engineers ass. Even with it turned off it still does weird shit. If I don't want to spin the tires in the snow/ice I just don't give it much gas. It's not that hard to figure out. The Sub went through deep snow way better than the Denali does and it did doughnuts a lot better. But damn I love the 6.0.
