I'm not "chasing numbers", I'm getting the most out of my money.

Of course there are TONS of audio crap that would never run the right power. That's just how it is. But the companies I've posted about DO run their RMS ratings and can even exceed them. That is all...

I agree, this post is not 100% directed at you, but for everyone in general. I know both owners, of Fi and T3...johnathan is a good guy as well :)

I agree with you blue but a sub is more than just the sum of its parts. There are alot of lines using "generic" for lack of a better term parts.. to make incredible products.. like you said.. t3 and a bunch of others.. but to say they are just popping a cone on them.. is a lil misleading i think.. since (i would hope) the number of companies actually just reconing chinese subs is fairly low compared to companies retooling complete projects.

depends, look how mnay use the standard 12 spoke basket, triple stacked magnets. Some may have dual spiders, one may have three. Cones are even very similar. Same with electronics...pop them open, same board, same manufacture, just a different heatsink and company logo.
The larger companies (with a built foundation and history) do that tooling.

originally, someone designed that 12 spoke design....now how many just 'use' it......

GM designed the 350...if GM wasnt around to keep up with new and innovative stuff, smaller companies couldnt build stuff to expand and make the 350 better with different performance parts.

My $0.02....
Sometimes you are able to find exceptional values from custom equipment. where the price and performance are both greater than the exceptional norm. In most cases when purchasing product in the middle tier, you are not going to see a big difference in price or performance. Going back to the Jl audio example the 10w3v3 is a solid mid line sub. From 100-500 watts RMS it performs well and there are 30 around other subs in the same price range. Honestly you will get similar performance out of almost 20 of them. That being said you need to look at what are the in tangibles you want or like. Some people like running SOP gear, other guys like running exotic hard to find gear that makes people turn their heads. In the case of Subs, for the most part, the build makes a bigger difference than the equipment. I can take a $45.00 “Speakerwerks” sub and make it sound amazing in the proper box with the proper amount of power and cooling (yes I said cooling). I can also take a $1000.00 audison TH 10 basso (quite possibly the worlds most *musical* sub) and make it sound like crap by the improper application of power and incorrect box.
My point is this. A large part of car audio comes down to how well the basics of audio period are performed in the built. Garbage in garbage out. Buy what makes you happy, but build/install the hell out of it. Have realistic expectations, know your product and its limitations. Respect them and your vehicle. Do this and you will have something you can be proud of.
