Cowel hood or side panel air scoop?

It appears that you are implying that there is some type of restriction in the flow of air coming into the truck with the stock air intake system, that is potentially limiting the maximum throughput from your stock motor. I personally do not believe that this is an issue.
The engineer who designed the GMT800 airbox posted on a forum once that they were good for about 360 horses. You could probably ask him what the 900 and K2 airboxes are good for.

Not sure what you are looking to gain, but I generally trim the air box itself to open in the forward panel, intaking air from around the headlight area.

Wouldn't that allow it to suck in air heated by the radiator? It might be slightly more air volume, but it's hot air. That'd probably cause a little detonation under higher loads, especially with 87 octane.

Yet, so many are hooked on believing that anything must be better than stock. Some also seem to believe that the level of bling and price of cone filter is directly proportional to the gain in power because that's what the commercials blasting electric guitars and growling voiceovers while cars smoke their tires say.

The intakes of the '800 and '900 are very similar. I can't speak for the K2, though. There must be something different since they've been shown to have a considerable benefit with a quality aftermarket intake kit. The only real differences I see are the intake manifold and the huge resonator chamber on the intact duct. Whether-or-not this gain in power is worth the cost is up to the owner, though. Us '800 and '900 owners should consider ourselves fortunate in this aspect.

I converted that number to get the horsepower. He also talked about the two resonator types and the ones we have and that they do not impede performance one bit, just sound.

That post and another about K&N filtration versus stock paper is why I went back to paper since the 1980s. In the other vehicles I was want to wring every last horsepower out of them engines, even the minivans! This one, I want it to breath crisp clean air! I've been in water over the airbox before, obviously not long enough for it to flood and for the motor to get a big drink of water! Excellent design. The air temp heats up 20-30 degrees over ambient while idling but sometimes on the highway it is even a little cooler than ambient, not always, sometimes. We used to run scoops under the bumpers on our drag cars but this truck could at any time need to cross water and I would surely forget to disconnect it!

The other night we ran the trucks at the drag strip and I used the Tech-2 to take a SnapShot of two runs. Ambient air was 79 degrees. The IAT was 114 at the start of the run and 102 through the traps in the quarter mile. Next run an hour later, same 114 at the start and cooled to 96 through the traps. Ambient air was 77 on that one.

Would have been nice to grab up some cold air with a scoop under or behind the air dam.

i have commented elsewhere about this also, it could have slightly higher air temps at idle, but at speed...i doubt it. this area is far beside and more forward of the radiator. i could see if it was an open element on a carb application, yes it would heat soak very easily. but even at that, the look of the air cleaner on carb is still the best...here is my current play toy, and it makes plenty of power

I applaud the designers of the LS engine for its performance but they get an F in looks, these motors are just ugly! Yes, your SBC is great looking, I loved the L98 type motors from the 1980s and of course my Buick GN engines, they were works of art in more ways than one as well.
