i got bored and cranked to see how much id get. i only got 6 and a hlaf turns and raised it like 1.5 inches on the passenger side. i didnt try drivers but that seemed to have more room before the key would bottom out and hit the crossmember. could my bars be worn? i want to do a 2inch block out back and crank the front to match so ill have 5 inches of lift. are those 2.3-3 inch lifts worth a crap? or would it be better to just get the 6 later on when i have money

I got 2" with about 1/4" of thread to go on the bolt. Perhaps your bars are worn. The 2.5-3" lift kits only correct the upper ball joint angle. The re-indexed keys might help you achieve two inches, but so would going to a junkyard and getting bars that aren't worn so bad.

It's not really important how many turns you made, if the bolt is all the way in or out. CV angles and ball joint angles is what you are looking for. That and make sure you have suspension travel...don't crank to the stops.

If I am not mistaken the 2-3" kits are basically new upper control arms to help correct the BJ angle...

I know this is a dumb question but did you actually look to see if the key hit the cross member or the bolt just stopped? I ask becasue I just crawled under mine to look and I think I could run my bolt all the way in with out hitting the cross member.

It is possible the bolt just bound up a little, try some penetrating oil also if you haven't already. Also, did you jack the front of the truck up before you cranked?

that is a good question haha ill have to try again... and yes i jacked the truck so the passenger wheel was off ground when i cranked it

Just out of curiosity, what are you folks using to crank the front end? (Tool Wise)

Pictures of a crank job would be nice, I'm intrigued.

Simple:

Block the back tires and measure the fender heights left and right
Jack the truck up so the front wheels are off the ground
With a 18 or 19 mm (I forget the exact size)
Tighten the adjuster bolts lets say 4 turns
set the truck back on the ground and measure the fenders again.
Do this until the truck has gained the height you are after...no more than 2" max I say
Drive trhe truck around the block a few times to settle the suspension again
double check the heights to make sure you are level side to side and if that is good go get an alignment.
New longer shocks may be needed to help the ride.
