Hello all, I was thinking of making my own custom Elbow intake kit by buying some prebent aluminum pipe. I was thinking of using a 90 at the TB to go to a ebay type cheap kit to finish taking it to the MAF and then to the factory air box where I would use a K&N type filter. I would also mod the air box with an aditional 3 or 4 inch pipe to allow air into the box with baffle to make sure no water enters the box. What do you think? any problems you see that I would have? I will make ports for air temp sensor and anything else. The kits I have seen I don't really like and they are pricey at 250 bucks. could do this for maybe 100 to 120 bucks using a stock filter or 150 to 170 With a K&N. Stock ellbow at the TB looks restrictive. Is it or is it just my mind playing tricks on me. lol Thanks guys

If your gonna do a custom Air intake might as well do it like the ricers do and run it through to the grille. Or you can run it to your headlight and take out the headlight ha.

i always thought it would be cool to run it like the normal CAI but make like a small scoop on the hood to improve air flow to the filter box. just a thought...

The vortecs already kind of have a ram air setup through the grill from the factory

here is what i did with mine. its a 90 off the TB to a 25 degree to the maf then another 90 to the filter. it was custom bent and welded by my buddy at a machine shop. costed me about 30 bucks for the work and the 4 inch aluminum pipe. then a filter and some spectre rubber clamps.

cool thanks for the idea. That is kinda what I was talking about. I was going to just run it into the factory box to reduce water exposure.

That intake like most intakes is ****** and minimal gains. B/c the filter is open inside the engine bay and close to engine. CALLED HEAT SOAK...sucking in hot air given off by the engine and put back into the engine.

If your going custom I'd say run pipe from the thru fender and have your filter near the tire for a TRU ColdAirInduction.

Ricer don't run it to the grill. They leave it open like Tricky has (not calling you a ricer). They run it to the fender (like I explained) or take out a front light and run it up to there.

Yea thats why I would use the factory box and just add an inlet to the box from the fender or front some where and leave the filter in the box. Stock bellows at the TB with its very sharp 90 there looks some what restrictive for higher rpms. I figured I would use a 90 at the TB with a couple other pices to get it to the MAF and then just add some more air flow to the factory box. I do plan on a stroker in the near future as this thing is going to be used 75% of the time as a tow vehicle. Lots of trafic near me and I have to be able to get out there.
