Custom Order Process and Allocations

Hello All,
So I am a longtime Honda owner and have now decided to upgrade the family to a LARGE vehicle. We have been talking to various dealers about Tahoes and Yukons and have been a little discouraged by the market adjustments and mandatory protection packages. Finally found a dealer that is not doing market adjustments AND they sell both Chevy and GMC. So I joined both lists of people waiting to order for Tahoes (6th) and Yukons (8th). The dealer tells me they will call me when they get an allocation, and then collect a deposit ($1k). After that point, the order may take anywhere from 60-120 days. My preferred configurations are as follows:
Tahoe: 4WD LT / 5.3L/ Signature Package (Includes Max Trailer and sunroof)
Yukon: 4WD SLT / 5.3L/ Premium Package / Max Trailer

From what I have read it sounds like some of these items may not be available. Is it typical that the dealer will receive an allocation and then tell me what is available? Then if I do not like it, do I have to wait until they receive another allocation?

I know some have been coming in without some features (wireless charging, heated steering wheel, etc), will I know what features may be missing from my build prior to putting in a deposit?

Any thoughts are appreciated as this is my first time ordering a vehicle or purchasing a GM.

when they get an allocation, they may do a couple of things - if all of your options are available, great, they'll order as is. If there's a constraint on something you picked, they can modify your order (you'd have to instruct them what options you would be willing to leave out) if there's a particular thing that is not available when your allocation is available. Or you can hold fast, and then you'd end up waiting for the next allocation. So far, only steering wheel, front heated/cooled seats and the front/rear parking sensor systems are slated to be eligible for retrofit (free of charge) after the vehicle is built.

Oh great, I wasn’t aware that some features could be added back in after delivery! That is good to know. Thank you

Can you tell me where you heard the parking sensor system is eligible for retrofit?

That's awesome if it is but my understanding from my dealer was it is the same as any other constraint - either leave it off if you want it built or you'll have to wait till it's available again if you want it.

DOSP - Dealer Order Submission Process

The weekly process consists of 4 stages.

1. Constraints Distribution - Dealers are informed on constraints to review before placing orders. (A Constraint is a limit placed on specific build configurations.)

2. Dealer Order Submission - Dealers can order on Thursday, Friday or no later than midnight on Saturday. (You can submit orders earlier but you don't know the constraints.)

3. The 4-Pass Process - GM will attempt to place each dealer’s orders on Mondays using a 4-Pass process. (At this point a dealer may get more or less than what they were allocated.)

4. Dealer Review - You can review your placed orders for changes or replacements until Tuesday at 9pm ET. That's when the accepted orders are sent to production control.

Arlington plant is currently producing 1600 Tahoes, Yukons and Escalade's A DAY. Also, reported that they cleared out a lot of units that had been "sitting around" for who knows what reason. Over 100 car carriers were reported in and out hauling units in one day.

Things are proceeding nicely so by the Fall of '23 it should be safe to order.

My dealer told me on Sunday, they have an allocation for 2 Tahoes (I didn’t ask the specs). (I’ve been very open with our salesman on how I am willing to change my order around if something is on constraint). But he said we have to wait until Friday to see if GM picks up my order and get a TPW? Does that mean the dealership didn’t have allocation for my exact trim/packages so they’re waiting for the next weeks order? Or does it take a couple days for GM to accept and process the order and give any details about TPW?
