Cutting Area Behind Aftermarket Headunit

Do you know if the 2007 Tahoe has the same size back? I am buying the radio and want to know if I need to cut to install.

I would think so, yes. The piece that Nathan cut is what I cut, using a Dremel tool with a drill bit attached. Even after cutting, I had to make sure the wiring behind the unit was out of the way in order to completely seat it, but it was no big deal.

I can not remember if you used it with a iphone or iPad but if it was a ipad what was your experience? I am going to use a Andriod phone but also A iPad

Are you using ARliberator to "mirror"?

depends what you mean by that. Mine "mirrors" as well. So what ever app I'm using on my iPhone shows on the screen.

However, when you go to certain Pioneer Apps, like GPS Driver, I get the map on my 8500 screen and I get the different buttons displayed on my iPhone's screen.

Sorry to repost again, but I'm about to order one of these and I want to make sure it functions like I'm wanting it to.

NathanJax - what exactly do you do to mirror the iPhone 5? Can you listen to music AND use Google Maps on the iphone for Navigation to show on the Pioneer unit at the same time?

Lastly, does the firmware update allow you to control the ipod functions on the iphone using the steering wheel controls or headunit while hooked up via HDMI or do you have to use the USB source to control them?

With the correct plug and the settings, it automatically mirrors.

Not sure as I never tried the "Google Maps" app and I never tried the regular map app while listening to the radio. I can't test it now because I no longer have the radio.

you can use the head unit to control the functions or the source, depending on the settings in the radio.

You got rid of your Pioneer radio? was it the AVH-X8500BHS? What made you do that?

I just finished installing mine today... Haven't played with it too much, but I think it will do everything I want it to.

Yes. Radio was fine and great. No issues with it at all

Well pulled the trigger on the pioneer 8500 today. I've got a new vcim with bluetooth in the way as well so I can retain factory bluetooth for phone using the onstar mic. Hopefully!
