I just bought oil for 6.44 per qt and 4.60 for the oil filter at Rockauto. Shipping was 11.99 but this is the least I’ve spent on an oil change on this beast. If you’ve never done your own oil change I would recommend replacing the oil pan drain bolt. The stock one is a pain the ass to remove. The head on it is almost flush. I like this one for LS3 engines with a magnetic tip C6 Corvette LS2 LS3 LS7 Magnetic Oil Drain Plug NEO Magnet Fits: All 05 through 13 Corvettes https://a.co/d/hoKa4hS IMG_3980.jpeg

When you've seen how many mistakes "Fast Lane oil change" uneducated techs have made on diesels.... (Mostly putting the wrong gasser oil in them...Or assuming they are an HD and putting 15W-40 in them or putting in the wrong amounts from way to little to way to much...) you'd understand why my dealership only allows their diesel techs to do oil changes on the heavy duty and LM2 engines.
Not to mention, most consumers just assume since they've had it done at a dealership that "It must have been done right" and don't check their receipts for what or how much was used. Then about 2 weeks later they pull the stick and it's like 2 " above full or doesn't even register.
All told to me by a friend that is a service writer at a local dealership...... Don't think it doesn't happen.... And the #1 reason I do it myself....
I’d like to do it myself, but worried about any warranty issues that pop up and then they can deny the claim. I’ve had buddies have to get lawyers involved even when they had proof of doing their own oil changes.

I was going to start a new thread but figured I’d post in this one. I did the first oil change on my wife’s Suburban today at 3,600 miles and I want to say that they did a great job making these easy. I was pleased to find the drain plug wasn’t over a crossmember or anything and neither was the oil filter. Both drain straight down into a pan without getting any oil on the vehicle. Used Mobil 1 ESP X2 0-20 and AC Delco PF66 filter both from Walmart, $55 for oil & filter.

The warranty thing crossed my mind but the guys at the dealer changing the oil are the lowest on the totem pole and I just don’t trust them anymore, dealers are hurting for help and hiring anyone they can. I always keep very good notes and keep the labels from the filter boxes along with receipts.

I pay my dealer $110 for and oil change and rotation. Last I got my oil and fuel filter changed, dealer tried to charge me a separate hour for the fuel filter. I said no. They took 50.-- off, still wasn't happy. I sucked it up b/c this dealer has not complained about warranty - replaced wiper motor, inspected things when asked, etc.

I normally don't use the dealer, my son in law does. IMHO the dealer he uses fleeced him. Oil, oil filter, tire rotation, 30 point check, blah, blah, blah, cost him $255.78 . I thought that was bad, his fuel filter was at 7%, they asked him about changing it, he said sure, he said he should have asked how much before the yes. They charged him $90 for the fuel filter (GM's MSRP is $78.22), and get this, $200 labor to change it . Needless to say, I was beside myself when he told me. How could labor be $200, it was up on the rack already for the oil change, the fuel filter can be changed in about 5 minutes. I am going to have my mechanic show him how to change the fuel filter at the very least. I also told him to find a different dealer, he needs a dealer that doesn't overcharge on parts, and isn't taking advantage of their customers with labor charges.

Stealer charged my daughter $240 to change a wheel stud that took them less than 38 minutes from start to pay the cashier. I guess I am still not over that one either.

I figured I take it to the stealer while under warranty. $229 for an oil change!! Not even tire rotation! Originally they rung me up for $269 and I was like WTF. I noticed they put 8 cylinder so had to correct him too. That “dropped” the price to $229 because “2 less quarts of oil”.

Are these prices normal?
You must live in King County...

Just changed my oil and filter. Oil was somewhere around $29 per 5 Qts, Mobil 1 and $11 for Filter. Bought 2 , 5 qt containers. Took about 20 minutes of my labor and I know it was done right!

Wow. I’d prefer to at least lie to me and wait 1-2 hrs till you tell me my vehicles ready…
