My share... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HJA3J--g_yI Love that one

What kills me in 90% of the videos I see about this stuff is their lack of understanding about their equipment. No use of a Winch!!! No use of Low-range. No airing down tires, no digging, no hi-lift jacks. No boards under wheels.
...and not to mention the fact that NONE of these guys appear to be very good at geometry or trigonometry.

I dont know what I would have done differently to be quite honest!

Without seeing a lay of the land, I cant say from this video... however, my pops always told me there are only two ways to pull a stuck vehicle out... forward, or backward... crooked like this video was not one of those two ways!

looks like someone needs to discover a shovel. and pulling the jeep sideways was a BRILLIANT idea.

What he said, dig, put some wood or something underneath the tires for some traction. I'd hate to have to pay for the tow to get that jeep home...

The more extreme off-roading you choose to do, the more difficult your recovery is. The saying goes, 4x4 doesn't prevent you from getting stuck, just gets you stuck in more difficult places. If you're going drive trails like that, or challenge your truck like that, be prepared to get it out when (not if) it gets stuck.

Fair question. I have been in similar situations before, I would have been prepared. When I used to wheel, I ALWAYS had a number of 2x6's, a hilift jack, chains, shackles and a shovel. I've been knee deep in mud before digging myself out. Yanking like they did was stupid. You need a winch and a shackle system for a lot of pulling force. Time consuming and dirty yes, but taking the proper steps in removing your vehicle without further damage, priceless.

Doesn't Matter
The desert is a lot of fun. Even if you do like me, I'm slow but often stumble upon people who need pulled out. If I wanna go fast I get in my buddy's pre-runner. Knowledge about how to drive on sand is key though. I go just about everywhere in two wheel drive.
Last time I was at Glamis, New Years, I pulled a two wheel drive F-150 out, up hill and all the way to the top of the hill. Unfortunately no video to prove.
And sand is way easier to clean than mud.
