2010 Tahoe 5.3,
102,500 miles:
I was driving down the street, stablitrack, traction control lights come on and the engine was making a fluttering noise, and lost all power. The noise sounded like something was in the fan or the fan shroud had broke loose (as on an older vehicle). Luckily I was a couple blocks from home, so I coasted home. I moved some cars out of the driveway and went to start it back up, it cranked real fast started and shut right off, tried again and now it seems to be locked. Has every symptom of a locked motor. I had the starter and battery tested, both good. I took a breaker bar and the engine will turn but not a full rotation either way.

At this point I believe it needs a motor. My question what could of caused it, is it common is the something else I could check? it had no prior engine problems

best guess from what information youve given its possible the timing chain broke wich would have led to a catastrophic failure like that but thats total speculation but to have a 100k mile 2010 sieze up like that wow either you just that lucky or the previous owner just downright abused it and it kinda sounds like yer just that lucky cuz you would have noticed it early of on the previous owner abused it or didnt take care of it

Yep, sounds like the motor gernaded.

Quick way to check is drain the oil and check for flakes

I would check oil level first. With all the BS of these motors using oil and GM saying it is ok...i would file a lawsuit if it were an oil lose issue.

It would be a tough go, but make a presence !

All in all, it does sound like something failed...chain, cam could be anything.

If you can afford the time, pull and see.
