The 2007 + rigs with the 5.3 have the cylinder deactivation mode. In the 2007 Tahoe brochure it brags how GM made the stock exhaust "quiet in this mode".
The reason I am asking this is I had a 2006 Dodge Magnum 5.7 Hemi, and a 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee 5.7 Hemi with this " cylinder deactivation", and when it was in this mode it "SOUNDED LIKE CRAP" with the stock exhaust. Could not put a aftermarket exhaust on these due to this. For those of you that have put a aftermarket exhaust on your 2007+ rides with the 5.3, how does it sound?? Great , no weird sound when it goes into 4 cyl mode... stight weird sound, or a lot of "weird sound". Also, can this be "turned off" with a plug in tuner like the Diablo etc.?

I have a 2009 5.3 and it never has a strange sound when in 4 cyl mode. It has a constant mean sound. You will rarely be in 4 cyl mode though unless you're light footed or on the highway cruising. I find that I'm almost always in 8 cyl mode. Most everyone on this forum has upgraded exhaust and has nothing but good things to say. Just do a search for exhaust and you will see many threads with details.

its harldy noticeable. There is a small tone difference. I dont notice mine unless im looking at the DIC or really listening for a change. As far as deactivation, far as i know, it cannot be turned off

I wouldn't give up the mean aggressive sound I have for such little change in sound for the rare times when you would be using 4cyl mode.

it is barely noticeable unless you are really listening for it. Also, it really only goes into 4 cyl mode on the highway so who can really hear it anyway.

Blackbear can remove the cylinder deactivation...not so sure about a hand held.

I have the Gibson dual side swept exhaust and it sounds completely awesome on my '07 5.3L. Like the others have said, the change in sound when in V4 mode is very minimal. If you didn't know what you were listening for you would never hear or notice it.

Thanks for all the info!

Thanks for all the info.... now what brand to chose. I want "not too loud, NO DRONE sound". Looking at the Flowmaster force 2 side system. I have bought nothing but Gibson cat backs up until 2007 on my Titan... put a Banks on it.

Hey jd08 - I promise I'm not stalking you...LOL

Can you tell us more about the resonator delete pipe you installed? Just a local exhaust shop job? Any sound clips?
